The guys there said it was the first time they've seen the Nissan Bulletin acknowledging this prob and how to fix it (I brought them a copy of it). I ended up staying at the dealership for close to 5 hrs, thinking the problem had been resolved.

Well, it's been a few days and the problem still persists... and worse yet, yesterday, my car was parked in the shade, I drove the car for about 20-30 mins back from the beach and when I got home and turned the engine off... I noticed there was a strange noise coming from under the hood (like the engine was still engaged)... when I popped it open, I saw that the engine coolant was boiling and kind of spraying out of the cover cap. Now the "Service Engine Soon" light is on.

Any ideas of what may have happened? Could the ECM code have been programmed incorrectly... Engine overheating, etc.?

I am going back to the effin Dealership on saturday, to hopefully get this resolved.

I live in Bay Ridge, but I rather go all the way to the dealership at Hudson NJ for service.

If it isn't the problem, then there is a bigger problem which they need to fix. I think there is a way of decoding the vin number to see if you have it but if not, call nissan customer service and ask them to clarify if it is for your car
So on my 2.5 SL sticker, it states in the Fuel Economy Guide "50 State Emissions Control System".

I'm assuming that this means I have the CA emmissions standards? If not, where do I need to look on the sticker?

Nissan customer service was less than helpful; they basically referred me back the dealership that sold me the car.

ya my car makes the same exact noise. i took it to the dealership when i got my oil change and i asked them about it and they checked some part and the said that the part that was suspected of this was already the newer version in my car. when i told them that it lasted for more then 30 seconds the guy was shocked and didnt know what to say but to leave it over night sometime.

its a very loud ratling noise.

I brought my 1 week old 07 2.5s to a different dealership than the one who sold me the car ... I had to leave the car overnight for the them to hear the noise in the morning ..they said I was the first one who has that kind of problem. They just have to re-program (something).. and the noise was gone I'm sure not all the 07 altima owners come to this forum for all the updates .. I just mention something about the TSB .. and problem solved.

Unhappy

Hey everyone,

I took my car into the dealership to look over the engine rattle that happens when the car sits overnight. They told me that this is completely normal and happens in all 2007 altimas and no TSB exists for it.

I took a video of it and uploaded it to youtube, you'll have to search for these words since I can't post a link yet =/

"Strange Engine Sound in Nissan Altima 2007 2.5 SL"

Does everyone else have this "normal" sound from their engine...

Thanks

~Weyland

The dealer is full of it. There is a very slight lifter type noise but nothing like before we had the tsb done. Perhaps your car isn't one of the ones that the tsb addressess but then it would be something else wrong.

Here is the first part of the tsb

EC07-002 NTB07-021 March 15, 2007
2007 ALTIMA; QR25 ENGINE
RATTLE WHEN STARTING ENGINE
APPLIED VEHICLE: 2007 Altima (L32) with California spec QR25 engine
IF YOU CONFIRM
When the engine is started after a “cold soak” of more than 4 hours:
• There is a rattle for 1-2 seconds,
and
• The rattle is coming from the IVT (Intake Valve Timing) Sprocket at the front of the
engine,
ACTIONS
Step A: Confirm this bulletin applies:
• Check the Current ECM Part Number (see page 3).
• Compare your Current ECM Part Number to Chart A on page 4.
If that part number does not match one in Chart A, this bulletin does not apply.
Go back to ASIST for further diagnostic and repair information.
Step B: Use CONSULT-II to reprogram the ECM (see page 5).
IMPORTANT: The purpose of "ACTIONS" (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work
you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire Service Procedure (starting on
page 3) as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair.
Nissan Bulletins are intended for use by qualified technicians, not 'do-it-yourselfers'. Qualified technicians are
properly trained individuals who have the equipment, tools, safety instruction, and know-how to do a job
properly and safely. NOTE: If you believe that a described condition may apply to a particular vehicle, DO
NOT assume that it does. See your Nissan dealer to determine if this applies to your vehicle.

So finally the dealership admits there is something about the rattle not covered in the TSB previous referenced in this thread.

They said the noise is the Exhaust Heat Shield. My old accord had an issue like that and rattled around 1500rpm (same as the 07 2.5 sl). They told me to keep an eye out for a TSB upcoming from Nissan on this issue.

So anyone else having this may want to monitor it too =)

I thought the rattle was normal, if it is an issue or a bulletin, does anyone have the full pdf to upload?

this just happened to me today. The car sat at work for about 5 hours in the rain and when I started it I heard the noise. Doesn't seem big but if it becomes worst I will have to do something

i had a rattle on cold starts that was fairly loud. i left it overnight and it turned out to be some type of heat shield. dealer said it was an issue that has been coming up so they removed the heat shield and ordered the part. car sounded nice and quiet without it and they put the new heat shield on. they gave me some BS about how the screws were different to hold it on or something. it still seems fairly loud though compared to what i would think it would be so i guess i gotta bring it up at the next oil change.

i had thought i had the same problem as mentioned throughout this thread but it did stop when they removed the shield..
