Ok, gang.... It's poll time!! Don't worry, this one is quick...
How many of you proud Altima owners opted for the extended warranty? I pick mine up in less than 2 weeks so I'm debating this one considerably. The cost I've been quoted is $2,375 (CDN $). Obviously, I would look to negotiate this down, if I do it...
Really curious to know your thoughts and how many people did it!
Not for me right now. I figure if I purchase a 5-6 yr. extended warranty my no-cost std. 3 yr/36K miles bumper-to-bumper warranty followed by my std. no-cost standard 5 yr/50k on engine and drive-train NETS down the value of an extended warranty for me. Also, another significant reason extended warranties are not a great value for me is I can do almost all my own work, excluding CVT transmission. Labor savings is a big plus there. I'll wait a couple of years; then I may just spring for the warranty. By that time I will be able to make a more educated decision as to whether this Altima is going to treat me fairly.
No extended warranty for me either. Looking at the fine print on alot of warranties, they do not cover alot of items that go wrong. Maybe for piece of mind but you could just save that money for possible future repairs down the road after your normal warranty is up.

Thanks, in advance.
On your marks..... get set...... GO!
I got mine for 1060 $ CDN in Toronto which include free oil and filter changes for the first year. I just wanted peace of mind and no surprises with a new car model (Altima 2.5S).
i got it, 7 year 120k (ill reach the 7 long before 120) because even though the engine and tranny have been proven there is still other stuff in the altima that havent been proven with it being a first year of the new design and it could be considered a risk buying a "first year" car so i didnt buy a warranty i bought peace of mind as jlohcc refers to it as
Negotiate, my friend, negotiate. The dealers all have such different prices on the extended plans, it's unreal. I got the gold for 1200, and when I had my 03 the Bronze plan cost me 1800. They are a money maker and a deal breaker, so negotiate.

I also did no extended warranty. I bought an extended warranty for 1 car in my past, the tranny dropped 1 month after the warranty did..... Haven't bought one since.
I did some research on this, some years ago. The extended warranty is NOT a part of the Nissan warranty- it's a third party insurance contract. Talked to some mechanics, and they hate those contracts. Also, I found that IF you or I want the extended warranty, we can buy it when the OEM warranty is about to run out. And you can shop around, to get the best deal. Of course, then the dealer won't get their cut, and the finance company won't get the chance to double the price, but hey, that's the breaks.
If you finance, you should never get extended warranty. It's just more to collect interest on. You can add extended warranty anytime, so you ride out the 3 years and add the extended warranty a month before the 3rd year is up.
We picked up the 6 yr 100,000 warranty as I drive about 17,000/year and I wanted the peace of mind that the car will be covered until we are done paying it off. what's nice also is that it goes with the car so if we trade it in or sell it outright before the warranty is over, we can add on a few hundred $$ to the pricetag. It also provides roadside assistance with Tow to the nearest Nissan Dealership and car rental. I have an 11 month old and the last thing I want to worry about is my car.
I bought it, but negotiated the price down to $900. I know I'll probably never use it, but as expensive as cars are to fix, and being a complete redesign; that 900 isn't so bad.
As soon as my car runs out of warranty, I will do all my own work. So, no.
