passat? Altima??? hmmmm

I am new here and need some advice

I currently have a 2005 SAAB linear. Today I decided to go to the vw dealer to look at the Passat. I was and am seriously considering it. Basically they gave me the following deal $27,250. it is the 2.0T. They would take my car back no questions asked.

But... Not sure if this is a good deal or not it was for a 2008 model. has all of the basics stuff and sunroof etc.

I was disappointed to find out there was no bluetooth built in the car.

I then went to consumer reports and they said the reliability of the car is not great. now I am second guessing the car.

Lastly I am also looking at the Altima. It seems for the same I can get a loaded altima with navigation and bluetooth for about the same price as the passat. I would be looking at the 2.5 altimla sl with nav

Hmmmm... anyone have any thoughts?

You can get 3.5SL for about the same price, maybe a grand more if your not a good hustler It will give you more luxury and performance.

I drove both. I really wanted to see the v6 passat but they didnt have any on the lot so I took out the 2.0. I like the Altima much more. The A/C in the passat was struggling on a hot day to cool off the car. My vote goes to the Altima.

if you were to go on reliability alone, the Altima would win hands down. The VWs just have issues and tend to be very unreliable. You could easily get a loaded 2.5SL for that price and I'm sure you would be happier with that than the VW. I'm not sure about the ridequality of the SL models but the SE is very smooth (even with the sport tuned suspension) and the car is very quiet. Longer drives are comfortable and cruising on the highway is nice. I believe the 2.0T requires premium to make 200hp while the 2.5SL uses regular to produce 175hp. The Nissan is definitely a bigger bang for the buck when you figure in features and amount of time your car won't spend at the dealer for repairs.

Thank you everyone.

Anyone have any idea which car is bigger? The Altima or the VW?

Also, is the 2.5 SL with Navigation hard to locate. The 3.5 is nice but... I am not in the mood to pay for premium gas all of the time.

I trade in my 02 passat for a 07 altima. If you plan to keep the car long, I would get the Altima, since the reason for me is the warranty expired, and I am having lots of problems after 3 years. By the way, the maintenance cost for a German car is much higher than Japanese car.

"Reliability of the car is not great" - now THERE'S an undertsatement. Two deal-breaker strikes plague almost any VW for me - overpriced and unreliable. Not for my dollar.

Jaeger

PS - Exterior and interior dimensions are pretty close between these two - one gains an inch here and loses it there. Go to edmunds dot com and build a comparison of up to 5 cars simultaneously.

the passat with 2.0T is a beast engine. if you chip tune it you can get 247HP/303TQ at the fly with it. FYI

that's all well and fine until the dome light shorts out and when you go to the VW dealer, they tell you the chip broke your light, please hand us $2000 to fix what you did

Passat is overpriced,ugly rear view profile,2.0 turbo lag,3.5 SE offers more for your $$ although reliability remains to be seen with the 2007 Altima.Could it be any worse than the Passat??Time will tell.Considered purchasing the Passat prior to purchasing my 3.5SL.only plus for the Passat was the sportier suspension setup.Consider the SE to minimize the mushy ride that the 3.5 SL offers{My only regret with my SL purchase}

we know Nissan's aren't that reliable, but for the most part, it's minor things. try dealing with electrical problems when the warranty is over....
