Question for you guys (and girls): At what point did you start getting your best gas mileage? Was it after the first oil change, 2nd oil change, or what? I see a lot of you getting 32-34 mpg and I'm getting 28 mpg. I only have 1700 miles on it so far. I also baby the car (no fast starts) and mostly stay 65mph and under on the highway.
My car is just 3 weeks old. Got it from the dealer with full tank and 14 miles on her. Just got her refilled at 544 miles. Without top off she took 16.1 gallon, that is 32.9MPG. I drive mostly on highways. With random use of AC, i am really impressed with this numbers.

Impressive right out of the chute - what is your powertrain combo?

I got my best mileage ever, coming home from the dealership. ~150 mil trip, and the computer was at 40+ mpg. Granted, it was all interstate, and I was taking it easy since it was new; cool evening, so no a/c.
I get 31 to 34.5 with 95% highway driving. I have never actually seen the 600 miles on the gage because I fill it up when it says to. But I have never put more than 17 gallons in the tank at one time and usually get 550 to 570 miles before it tells me to put fuel in.
I was doing some research on power-to-weight ratios and found an objective site about revised EPA MPG #'s on cars. Check out Fuel Economy the 2.5 S really only gets 468 miles on a full tank, with no difference between the automatic and the manual. This is still not bad, but it is far short of 600 + miles. Whatever numbers the car's computer is showing is based on "fuzzy math." Getting 600 + miles on a tank of gas is delusional.... Newspaper ads are now filled with misleading information about new vehicles, citing the maximum theoretical highway mileage as if it were the real MPG. Recently, I even saw an ad for a Hummer claiming to get 20 MPG. The only way this is true is downhill with the wind....

Not delusional. Figure it out, 600 miles divided by 17 gal, (out of the 20 gal tank) = 35.29 mpg. I pulled a 35.8 mpg on my last trip, filling at 609 miles. Hard to do, yes, but very possible. That was with cruise set to 72, (no A/C, temps in the 60's), if I lowered that to 60, probably gain another 1 to 2 mpg.
you got your own club because your a retard...i bet you wont be able to pull off 18 mpgs in a prius, because you'll try to do peel outs in it all the time
Had 534.7 miles on this tank Saturday and filled up. After repeated "topping off" after the pump cut off automatically, still only took 15.5 gallons.
That was 34.5 mpg this tankfull. Computer was saying 36.6 mpg.
After having the car for 3 months, there are a couple of certainties:
1. The computer is consistently 2 mpg optimistic
2. This car easily gets 32-35 mpg with a 70/30 mix of highway/city
3. On the highway, at 65 mph or below, I can consistently average 38 mpg.
4. 600 miles on one tank is not unusual
To repeat, on Fuel Economy, the new EPA MPG for the 2.5 automatic is 26 combined city/highway. It suggests that real drivers are getting 27.4, the same as the Rogue. Finally, on a full tank of gas, this site says the 2.5 gets 468 miles. To be honest, I'm close to purchasing this vehicle and am happy that a mid-sized sedan is getting the equivalent mileage of many compacts. I'm still puzzled about the discrepancy between 468 and 600 +....

Well...this is how it works...
It is just like you said. This web site gives an ESTIMATE.
In reality some people (myself included) are getting 32-34 mpg. I drive mostly highway and an 85 mile roundtrip every day at about 65mile per hour. Where you really lose your mileage is driving through town. If I do a lot of city driving my mileage will also drop into the upper 20's. The lowest I ever got was 29 and that was with about 25% city driving.
