This is a common complaint among us Altima owners. Turning the radio up helps.

Pull the pads from the caliper, put on a squirt of Anti-squeal. Squeaky brakes typically have nothing to do with worn brakes. Pads vibrating in the caliper. Mine started around 30k. Pads will probably be good until around 80k for my driving habits. Takes longer to get the car jacked up, on jackstands and wheels removed than to fix the squeal. I'll do mine on next tire rotation (every other 5k oil change)

Changing the brake pads is just going to give you new pads to vibrate and squeal so no, new brakes won't help you.

Follow the advise that ssjones gave you to get rid of the squeaky noise.

My pads are 48,000 miles old and still have about 1/2 the thickness I started with but I'm very easy when driving and braking in my car.

Not if some anti-squeal isn't applied to the new pads, same squeaking.

Hard to say, fronts pads should last a typical driver 30-40k.

It's quite a simple job, get someone local to help. I did my neighbors newer Impala last night. Dealership quoted him $399 for front brake pads, more if the rotors need replaced. Bought premimum pads at Autozone for $50 and the rotors were fine. Took less than an hour. A few simple hand tools is all that is needed. Some pads are more prone to squeaking than others, same for dust build-up etc.

How many miles on your car? Bet they say you need new pads and maybe rotors, and they aren't warranty items. Put a request on this list for help, surely someone lives near you and can show you how this is done.

Yeah just the way these brakes are designed, they squeak for me on downhill lite braking.

some good but bad advice here....

Yes some anti-squeak might help, it is NOT the fix. There are 2 TSBs out there for squeaky brakes on 07-08 Altimas. The squeaks are usually under 10mph. The correct fix is take it to the dealership where they will replace the hardware, calipers and pads. If the correct fix was some anti-squeak gel, Nissan wouldnt be shelling out hundreds of dollars fixing every one of these cars.

Why not go for that. 8k on the car, I'd at least ask. If your dealership has a somewhat decent service rep, they'll take care of that issue whether or not it's covered in the TSB. I not sure how reliable the info on this site is, but it listed a TSB for squeaky brakes.

The site is credible... I had the TSB done. The dealership actually "overlooked" the TSB and tried to sell me a $90 service and I pointed out the TSB. What do you know..they found it and did it. There is also a TSB for the rear brakes... I believe it is ntb08-047

Herb Gordon Nissan in Silver Spring MD replaced my front pad and my rear pads under warranty. Brakes, Alignments, and other maintenance items are covered for 12/12,000 miles by the manufacture. They even resurfaced my front rotors due to pulsation.
