Replacement OEM tires

12K on the Continentals now and easily 1/2 tread left but was wondering what others have replaced theirs with. Tirerack is a great site but looking for some imput from Nissan Altima drivers. Thanks. 215/60/16

I have 26K on my Conti's and way more than 1/2 tread to go. I plan to replace with the same. This is the first OEM tire that I will buy a second set of. I just love those little guys in all respects. Contact patch? If I just want to look and feel more aggressive I'll back the Vette out and pull the Alti in.

I've just 40K on my 07 altima, and still have the stock tires on it. The are not quite to the wear indicators, but they are very close. I'm not going to put the Continentals back on, as once the are about 1/2 to 3/4 worn that get real noisy and their wet traction really suffers.

For what its worth, I am going to replace mine with the General Altimax HP tires. They are reasonably priced and have gotten some really good ratings/reviews.

We have just over 20k on our Contis and I can't wait to get rid of them, they are by far the worst tire I have ever had. They are too soft and spongey, no sidewall ridgeness at all, and they are aweful in the snow.

As for the question to what we replaced them with, on other vehicles I have experienced many different brands of tires in different price ranges.

You never mentioned how much you are looking to spend and what your driving charaterists are like. Do you like the soft comfert of the factory tires or would you prefer a more rigid sidewall for better handling and stability?

For inexpensive tires I perfer Kumho tires. If you are looking to spend a little more I tend to lean towards BFGoodrich rubber. Never cared for GoodYear, ones I've always had sucked and they were twice as expensive to replace. They make some decent tires, but you can usually find a tire as good as Goodyear for half the price by companies like Kumho or Toyo, etc.

I've had nothing but problems with the continental tires; rotated them every 5k and still they had painfully uneven tread wear. One had parted steel belting and the other just went slow-flat driving on an interstate after having put air in it a day before.

I replaced the first two defective tires with Sumitomos and they do ride a bit quieter and smoother than the contis, but my opinion is subjective so others may disagree. As soon as the other two contis fail, which I predict will be in the next 12 months, I will replace them with Sumis as well.

We don't have the greatest selection in the 215/60/16 size. I have been reading nothing but great reviews about the new Cooper CS4 tire. I read from a tire installer on another website that they balance super easy.

I will second the General Altimax HP tires. I just put them on 2 weeks ago and so far they are great. Very quiet, smooth and Great traction in the snow. Compared to the Conti's that were on the car when I bought my '07, they are Way better in every way. I live in Northern Indiana and we have been getting a bit of snow here and these tires perform very well. I bought from the TireRack and the price is great. I live about 20 minutes from there main warehouse here in South Bend, IN and had them install them so no shipping was required. That's my 2 cents.

Cool New Tires

I have original Continentals except one tires. Total 46k miles and already did well on snow and ice somehow. I will also buy from Tirerack and going to get Kumho. I have used them before for 35k miles before I sold that old car. Those tires were very good for the money. They were well rated at the Tirerack sites too. Because of the economic situation I this is the best buy to me.

I've found the OEM's just don't cut it in the Northeast here with the snow and all. I had some Toyo's Proxes 4 on my other vehicle and it seemed to really grab the ground well. It's rated high with a 300 AA A rating although I've yet to place them on the Altima. Just needed to get a "plug" in one tire and I didn't like the way the tires handled in the snow so I'll be stopping by the tire store soon I'm afraid!
