Auto Heat - A/C Comes On?

Sometimes when I turn on my Auto Thermostat for the heat to come on, the A/C button also lights up.

Why is that?

Here is what I understand. The computer does not have the ability to turn the AC on and off. So in order for the auto to work, it ALWAYS turns the AC on... because it can not, if you turn it off, turn it back on...

So lets say, it is 20 degrees outside, and you have the heat on, and has you are driving there is a nuke mushroom cloud coming up in the distance. When that heat wave hits you, the Alti can not turn on the air to offset the new 1200 degrees it is outside. So as a default it ALWAYS turns it on...

Also, the other reason for this is in the winter your windows may fog up more, and with the AC on, that is a lot less likely...

Anyway, your AUTO is not as smart as you think

So do you click the button to turn the A/C button off... or just leave it on?

The AC always comes on with auto because it dehumidifies the air. Just hit the button if you don't want it on.

I've also noticed that with the auto unit, if you have the AC on and then hit the off button, the next time you turn the climate control on the AC will come on again. But if the AC is off when you turn it off, it won't come on the next time.

Also, with the non-auto if you hit the "recycle air button" and then hit it again later to let fresh air back in, the A/C turns on. Annoying...

Besides the auto-on functions.
The air conditioning system on our cars, is great!
It works amazing, and doesn't have much affect on the cars performance.
very little drag/friction from the compressor

Not quite my experience (or a lot of others on this board). The AC snags about 2-3mpg when used in the summer (I have mine off for most of the winter as the only time I use recirc is when warming up the interior without me in the car. I average 29-30 in the SE during the summer and I CANNOT get it above 27 with the AC on. (All calculated mileage).
