I got 28mpg on the first fill-up. The trip computer says 26.8 - 27.1 with a mix of city and highway (mostly city). I thought it was odd that my manual calculation came out HIGHER than the car's. Perhaps the sales guy that filled it for me topped it off a few times... I was really hoping to break 30mpg with this one, so heres hoping it gets better. I have 600 miles on it so far. I'll be filling-up again tomorrow, so I'll post the result.
My MPGs improved overall at about 3000-3500 miles.
Ease into your take offs and you will achieve 28-29 easy... assuming you dont sit in traffic. The worst I ever saw was 24 early on in my mileage.
I just dropped in a KN filter and flogged "Oscar" pretty hard testing for any performance diffs and achieved 26.1 on the tank. That was all in town driving.
Now that I have felt out the differences Im back to my normal habits and waiting to see where I land with the filter change.
Glad I used the search feature.
One thing that's not been discussed is what octane you're filling your tanks with? This does play a part in your milage. You might save a lot at the pump using 87 but if your milage is bad, try 2 tanks of 91 (or 93); first tank to purge what might be left from the 87 octane.
It would be a good test if someone is willing to lay down the $$$ for doing this.
I'm still wanting to buy either an Altima 2.5SE or Altima Hybrid. A $6,000 difference and 1,000lbs. weight penalty is what I'm teterhing on.
I use 87 octane which is what the car was designed to burn. Putting in higher octane is nothing but a waste of money IMO.
The trip computer is showing 27.6 now, which is pretty much all city driving with the way my commute tends to be stop/go. I always feather the gas when I take off and keep the RPMs below 2500. I find it pretty easy to drive the car by only allowing RPMs to raise to 2250. I only gun it if I have to for safety reasons, or to merge, etc. I'm nearly running on empty, so I'll fill it up on the way home and do my own calculation.
Mileage on the 2nd tank of gas by my calculation was 27mpg even. This is using 87 octane and basically feathering the gas pedal as much as possible. 80% city / 20% highway. This isn't as good as I was hoping for, but perhaps after a couple thousand miles it'll get a little better. If I can achieve 30mpg by driving gently, I'll be content.

EPA expects you to get 25MPG so your ahead of many.
Side Note - Ive noticed that my computer is becoming more accurate with time.
When I first got the car it was about 1.5 mpg off from reality. Now nearing 6K its off by about .5 MPG.
Yeah but the EPA has never been accurate, so I have no reason to believe they will be with these new ratings. I believe the new ratings are MORE accurate than they used to be, but by no means could they possibly be dead-on. It all comes down to how you drive, your elevation, available gas, etc etc. I believe I should be able to hit 30mpg in this thing in time. This summer for sure. I'm pulling 27mpg now with only 675 miles on the odo. Trip computer seems to be about .6 mpg optimistic on mine.

Agreed.
30 is doable with some calm driving.
If I can pull 29 on ethanol rich "winter" gas Im sure 30 is in reach.
2008 Sentra 2.0 with CVT - 900 miles - averaging just under 30MPG in Rochester NY. I did replace the air filter with a K&N air filter after the first 200 miles. The car seems to run better with the less restrictive air flow.
It is a commute car - 40 miles at 75 mph, 15 miles mixed city/expressway - one way. I try to keep at 2200RPM or less except when getting on ramps, etc.
I expect better MPG after 1st oil change and with summer gas.
Interestingly, I had the same MPG with my wife and daughter in the car.

I'm sure this is probably obvious but it seems people always seem to overlook the obvious. To the people getting < 30-32 mpg on the highway.. First you probably know driving over 55-65 mph and you are already decreasing fuel effiency due to the increase in aerodynamic drag. Wind resistance. Second, if you're going up and down hill constantly, like the highways here in Dallas with under/overpasses every 1/2 mile, that will really cut into the mpg. I own an '06 auto Sentra 1.8, and on a level stretch of road I will get over 37 mpg @ < 65 mph. As soon as I climb up the first slight incline (maintaining my speed), the next mpg update on the trip computer will show a much lower number, maybe something like 31 or 33 mpg something. In fact with my 1.8 a/t I average about 29-31 mpg with 80% hwy @ 65-70 mph, 20% stop-go driving < 45 mph, sitting at red lights etc. I tend to accelerate slow/fast inconsistently, so that cuts into my mpg.
i get 33.1mpg average for 3k miles then i reset it to see what i get during the winter since its lower and takes more time to warm up, i get rougly 28.2mpg
EDIT: oh yea, i keep my car almost always under 2.1k unless its a very steep ramp.
