The Latest on the Nissan GT-R
Although Japanese Automotive magazine Holiday Auto doesn’t actually confirm that the capacity of the new engine will be 3.8L, they do explain to some extent why the new power plant won’t be a part of the VQ family of engines currently used in the V-series Skyline sedan and coupe models. Also discussed is the FM platform and how it influences the GT-R’s advertising catch-phrase and just why the new GT-R’s headlights are a step ahead of the rest.

Nissan Announces First Details on New GT-R [Sept. 26, 07]
Global Website Goes Live Today
TOKYO, Japan, (September 26, 2007) – Nissan today started the pre-launch activities in support of the all-new GT-R, the high performance sports car to be revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show on October 24th. Central to the launch of GT-R, which will ultimately go on sale around the world, is a dedicated website that will provide all information on the car, including latest news, specifications and where to buy. The address for the website is Nissan GT-R Official Global Site and will be available in six languages: Japanese, English, Spanish, German, French and Italian.
With sales due to start in Japan in December, Nissan is today also confirming the final name of the car. Previous generations of this car were known as the Skyline GT-R; the new name for this car is simply “Nissan GT-R” in all global markets. Supporting substantial early customer interest in the Nissan GT-R, the company is today making available for customers in Japan some initial details including basic specifications, colors and practical information on placing pre-orders. Prices in Japan for the Nissan GT-R will start from around 7.8 million yen.
In support of the sale of the Nissan GT-R, the company also announced today the establishment of 160 Nissan High Performance Centers in Japan. These centers have been established to provide specialist sales and servicing support for customers of the Nissan GT-R.
I posted it mostly for the site link. Unless its old news as well.?

I hope people will FINALLY stop calling it the "Skyline" GT-R.
It was mentioned a long time ago that the Skyline and GT-R would be separate cars.
I concur. Even with the R32-34 series there was the base models and the GTR models. Nearly night and day difference performance wise, though body styling was nearly the same except for common things like actual functioning cosmetic upgrades.
Though today the Skyline(Infiniti G35-G37) and GT-R have some connections. IIRC, they are on the same platform and some body line characteristics are shared however like Nissan says, the new GT-R is a completely different car. New engine line. Different body. New headlight design. New super sports car.
I'm just curious how awesome it will be for the cash they are asking.
i think of chunky kinda of euro box cars when i think of the skyline also FI in recent years..... awd is a plus. it is supposed to be the pinnacle platform of nissan.

wow that sounded like shit.......
I guess typing on a cell phone really looks and sounds like shit.
Ok here goes my revised statement.
The Nissan skyline as most people recognize it is the R series. You look at the 80s skyline that looked like a bad maxima, the 70s looked like a muscle car. When you say Skyline most people usually jump to the Rb powered r32-r34 series of cars. It just was such a drastic change from the r-34 to the v-35(i think thats the right code) it looked more luxury didnt really show the body lines. The car as a whole was very different cosmetically. beyond that the car had a level of class that the old skylines never had. it was more a luxury car. it merged with the infinity line very well because of that. i also think the lack of awd with a standard tranny was kind of a step back. instead you get this horrible manumatic, (cvt option as well i think). It also swapped (i like this decision myself) to a v6 rather than an inline 6. and dropped FI and attesa from the formula completely. all in all the g35 is a great car but imo its not a skyline.
