Nissan Murano SL 2003 72,000 miles
Driving on highway at 70 mph. Suddenly I start losing power. I press the gas pedal, engine rpm meter revs up but no gain in speed. I pull to the side of the road. "Service Engine Soon" light comes on. I wait for five minutes and try to accelerate. Speed goes to the 30 mph at the most. I limp along the feeder road at low speed. There is a whining sound as I try to accelerate, something like a bad fuel pump. After about 20 miles, the car is back to normal speed pick-up, running at 70 mph. The engine light stays on. No other light on nor does engine temperature go up.
Next day took the car to dealer. Service guy calls and says there are four service codes and they point to "transmission replacement" that will cost $5,800.00. I yank the car out of the shop to take it to a my breliable neighborhood garage. I haven't been there yet. The dealer turned off the service light though the problem has not been fixed.
On the way back from the dealer, drove the car for 40 miles on highway at 70 mph without a problem.
IS THERE REALLY A PROBLEM? SHOULD I GET A SECOND MECHANIC TO LOOK AT IT? OR WAS THE PROBLEM TEMPORARY AND HAS GONE AWAY, SOMETHING IN THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM OR STICKY PART? ANY SUGGESTION?
