Tire sizes 245/45/18 or 245/40/18

hey guys, im pretty sure this has been discussed before, and i tried searching but for some reason my search button isnt work,
so if someone can help with this (even with links to previous threads)
it would be greatly appreciated,

im looking to buy 4 new toyo t1rs for my 18 inch se-r rims
im not sure whether to go with 245-45 or 245-40s

i seen a picture of the 245-45 recently on this board and they look nice but pretty beefy, does anyony have a picture of the 245-40s on se-r rims?

is there a major ride/performance quality difference between the two?

and im driving on a tien basic coilovers, but not slammed too low, (wheel gaps about 2 fingers)

thanks in advance

There is less sidewall with the 40s compared to the 45s so the ride would be harsher, but I doubt it would be noticeable. Your coilovers would be able to compensate for any wheel gap if you move up to 245/40 from the stock 225/45. According to a tire size calculator 245/40 is closer to stock so you would have a more accurate speedometer.

I imagine a 245/45 is a more common tire size and will be cheaper. Its nearly hair splitting differences between the two of them, go with the size you get the best price for.

actually the 245/45 comes out to about $90 more for all 4 tires plus shipping, for those that have drove on both sizes do you think thats worth the extra comfort?
thanks

i went with 245/45 since the taller tire corrected the speedo issue that the se-r has. the tires do look more beefy and take a while to get used to, but once you see another se-r with the stock rubber it will make you laugh at how silly it looks.

i kinda agree, sometime i park next to another SER w/ stock potenzas and I'm starting to like how the 245/45s fit the rims more and more...only argument is the front end kinda sits high n the wheel gap stays about the same.

and i think comfort will be negligible between the 40s and 45s , esp. w/ the SER's tighter suspension, it pretty much would come down to the looks availability and price

I hope I'm not bringing this thread back from the dead. I have some tires that you see in my signature and am second guessing them now. I am looking to get some better grip and ride out of these tires. I have the nismo rims, and I have been using the same rubber that came on the stock rims on the nismo's. The difference is, the stock are 8" and the nismo are 8.5". This being said, I was wondering about some rubbing.
I have had the tires since they were on sale about two weeks ago, but have never rode on them yet. I do not have a license and will be getting it back in june. Should I have gone with the 245/40's or will I be fine with the 45's? I don't do too much rock crawling, so I don't need too much travel in the wheel wells. I'm just wondering what makes the tires rub if they rub at all? Cornering, or just massive potholes?
The guy at tirerack and I were talking about this when I was deciding on tires. He said they would ride better on a 45 than a 40, and I agreed with him. What do you think? The anticipation is making me tweak out here, only 16 more days till I'm pimpin again... If you could share your opinions on your tires, it would sooth my worries until 6-6-08 when I'm driving on them myself. Thanks

Tom; I'm excited to finally bring some pix on this site. You and I both have to wait until June 6 though. That's when my car will finally be comming home and I get my license back. I've been paying $407.88 a month on a car that I can't drive for the past year. I woulda gave it back to nissan, but they were not planning on making any se-r's anymore. So I had to keep it and pay on a car I can't drive. There's my explaination for the big lag in this thread. I'll post tons of pix as soon as I can.

Putting 245's on 18x8 Se-r RIMs? what is the reason for such wideness? For the looks only? If so? you gota get real with your life.... I just switched from 225 to 235 and they do have a bit more of the grip, but the the car is not as rough to the response as it was with 225. Putting 245? is to much...

I have the Nismo wheels, not the stocks. the nismo are a 1/2" wider than the stock. I'll try to change my picture to show you

Yah, i was contimplating the 40's too. I wanted a quieter/ better ride so I got the 45's. They will fill up the wheel wells nicely I think. Tirerack gave me all the pros/cons of the tires. I still went with the 45's. I'm sure they will ride fine. Like I said, the days of me rock crawling with my altima are gone with the stock rims. These will ride just fine
