just wanted to see some more pics of the install... I'm gonna do this next month, so I want to be as prepared as I can for any possible issues.

I just hope the ride will stiffen up after this install, then I'm movin onto the struts...

I haven't done it yet. I still need to order the shocks, been too busy with work to get time to order and do an install of them. Hopefully before the new school year starts I'll get a chance to do this mod.

In case anyone is interested, this is an email response i got from performancepeddler earlier this month. If you know of a better price, please post it. I'm also thinking about installing these sometime.

thats pretty much the same as Summit Racing, except their 741028 is on backorder right now. So this includes shipping? I may have to place the order today.

On a sidenote: How hard was it to modify the bracket on these? whats the best way to accomplish this with the least amount of risk to the shock?

I did the KYB AGX Rear shock install today - SUPERNISSANS.NET Nissan Owners Community

Pretty easy install just a couple of things you got to do to make them fit. Knock off the spring perch which is just pressed on. The piston shaft is alittle wider at the bottom to put the OEM spacer with rubber bushing on. So you need to grind that down slightly. You got to widen the bottom saddle bracket. Widening it is not hard, but then its flared out and you got to square it back. What I did is found a couple of sockets that fit between the stock shocks bracket and placed them between the new flared out bracket then hammered it so the sides squared back, but didn't close more then the 2 socket space that was the same space on the OEM shocks. Can you picture that.. lol I should of took some pictures, was going to, but once I started on it it didn't take long. You will also need 2-7/16x3" long bolts with washers and lock washer and nuts.

I ordered 2 Konis and 2 AGX and will be installing late July or August. I sure will take some pics.

Oh, BTW...
I did get an update on Tokico and their "in development" status on their web site: I basically found out that they will not make anything for gen III Altima.

You're going to cut open the fronts and install Koni inserts? I definitely would like to see a write up on that one.

The writeup from Custom Altima contains the following text. They have no pictures to show, so I thought I might as well just paste the text, in case they clean up their blog:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Parts Needed:

* 4th gen. Maxima (1995-1999) Koni Sport (yellow) strut inserts.
* PL Urethane adhesive
* Loctite 271
* 12mm serrated lock washers (2)
* 12 x 1.25mm nylon insert locknut

Install the Koni inserts into your strut bodies per the Koni instructions provided. Use the Loctite on the lower bolt, and a 1/4 bead of urethane adhesive around the top of the shock at the protrusions on the Koni insert bodies.

Modify the upper strut mount (insulator) by removing the flat spot from the bore with a die grinder or drill bit.

Reduce the height of the mount by 8mm with a saw/grinder/mill by removing the material from the bottom. When completed the bottom of the center bore will be approximately level with the three raised areas of the rubber portion.

Assemble and install the struts using the serrated washer and Koni-provided nuts on the upper mount center bolt.

Tighten to 40 ft. lbs.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A picture by picture install of a typical Koni insert is described with pictures here:

Installing Koni Strut Inserts

Update:

I had those KYB's Adjustables for quiet some time already and i am not feeling them... the rear is not catching up even at "8" position. They are definetely better than stock, but really not what i had expected. Before when i had 4 brand new maxima and altima shocks welded together the rear was mad agresive, the car handled like a dream. But after 20,000 miles when they died and i replaced them with KYB's AGX Adjustables i felt no difference at all, its like i exchaged used up shocks for another used up shocks....

You might be ready for Bilstein (also for 1996 300ZX). I wonder if they will go on as easy? I say most likely yes:

So you would not recommend these?
I just received a set, delivered today, and was going to install this weekend.
Should i return them, or go through with the install?
Is there another type of shock that you would recommend instead?

lol. pimped-up used to have TWO shocks welded together. most people have been happy with the KYB AGX. depends on how stiff you like your suspension to be.
