Nissan Enthusiast Forums - Looking for HP tires for reasonable price

After searching, I couldn't find any fourms related to my question so here it is.

I am looking for High performace type tires that are either all season or summer only as it really doesn't rain out here in Cali. I have been suggested a few tires and the names that seem to come up most are the Toyo Proxies (which type, I think there are different versions?) and the Faulken 912's.

Which tire do you perfer, or do you have a better suggestion. I am going to be putting them on my steelies as I can't afford to be spending money on rims too.
(Tire size: 215/50R16)

I am looking to spend between $70-110.00

All your suggestions are much appriciated. Thanks guys.

Kuhmos' seem to get a lot of praise, especially for the price. Tire Rack has the best prices online, but Americas Tire (several in the Bay Area) will match prices from Tire Rack. Their service is great too.

your looking to go with a lower profile , right ? you can also go a little wider with 225's check the prices with 225/50/16 they might even be cheaper than the 215's .

Is this true? WOuld it look off though considering it would be a bit extra wider? I will have to research this... Hmm.. sounds like a good idea. Makes a bigger footprint too.. who knows.

225 is good

Awesome.. Looks like I save around 20/tire going with 225/50R16. I was reading on another forum that if you put a 225 with 50 it is near equilivant to 215 with 60.. I don't want too much of a "lower profile" but I do want a good tire.

I would go with the Kumho. 18x8=> 235 (is best fit)

I haven't read anything of quality about Kumho... they mostly get bad reviews about the things that matter most to me.... keep in mind I am putting these on my steelies 16*6

the 225/50/16 is wider and cheaper why are you going with a 215/55/16 ?

don't forget that going with a lower profile tire on the same sized wheel will increase your wheel gap and impact your speedo.

for example: overall diameter of 225/50/16 is 1.3" smaller than 215/60/16. when your speedo reads 65mph you will only be driving 61.8mph. (if the alti speedos were actually accurate. lol)

225/55/16 would be a better size to keep your speed almost correct. speedo will only be off 1 mph at 65 from stock tires

Man, you are definetely missing out about the KUMHO's quality. I am on my second set right now and the way i drive man!? i need to have good tires, and Kumhos are the ones that does the job very well. If not Kumhos? I would go with Yokohamas, but they are a bit more pricey so i reather stick with Kumhos, because i doubt that you will notice a difference between them...

if you count the stock tire size as either 205/65/16 or 215/60/16, the closest 225 tire to stock will be 225/60/16. I had those on my 16" wheels.

A 215/55-16 is too low of a profile to keep your speedometer accurate. I'm afraid the widest tire you can get away with on a 16x6.5" wheel is 225...therefore a 225/60/16 will be closest to stock overall diameter, and you can probably get away with a 225/55/16 if you really want to. I wouldn't go to 215/55/16's though; that's too far from stock.
