When I drop it, I'm going to do it right. That's why I've waited, because its going to be $1000+. I'm not half assing it. I'm going Ground Control coilovers, Tokico struts, and Tokico strut mounts. I already have the Eibach camber kit, I'm planning on dropping it before Christmas, hopefully.

Aight, update time!!!

Well the rims are DONE, as in: Fucked.

It all began with one of the rims cracking in September somehow. Don’t have any clue how it cracked, cause I drive like a old man, although the roads are beyond shitty around me.

I did fix it, and it worked temporarily (for almost a month).

What I did...

The crack:

I sanded the crack down with different grades, cleaned it up, and prepped it.

JB Weld:

After 1st coat:

After 2nd coat:

I decided after I did the first two coats, sanded, cleaned up, and had the cracked completely covered and filled, to paint over the crack (did like 6 coats of flat black wheel paint, then clear coated it like 6 more) to give it extra protection and to seal it even more. Let’s just say it was a great idea, but it didn’t work out in my favor lol.

Tire on:

Looked good.

It ended up slowly loosing air again, and about a month after I fixed it, I was back to square one.

After the tires were taken off, this is what my fix was turned into:

Now if that wasn’t enough…

Then came some night I went down the wrong road.

I was only going like 40mph (speed limit: 50mph), and every 10 feet it was a ba-bump, ba-bump, and then BOOM!

Mind you, it was my two front rims that went. The one was already cracked, and low on air (after the fix quit on me, I had to pump up the tire twice a day).

Then I guess the 100th bump I hit popped the other tire, and I ended up with 2 cracks in that rim, 2 bends, and a destroyed tire.

The day after pics:

I just recently/finally got the tires taken off…

With the rim with 2 cracks/2 bends, you can see all the rubber and inner lining of the tire.

I had rubber confetti when the tire was taken off.

Now if that isn’t enough…

Aight. Now as far as the paint. I did the best possible job I think anybody could have done when it came to painting these damn rims.

I did it over 4 months. Prepped like crazy, I really think I put 24 hours (or more) into each rim, over time of course.

You can refer back to the beginning of thread to see how well I went about everything. And I didn't even get into the half of it.

When it started getting colder, like around the time of the meet (October/November) the clear coat started cracking. And it just slowly got worse up to the point where I took them off (December).

On Car (Hurtin pic for The Alt):

After tire was taken off, dirty as hell looking terrible:

Some shots just to see the cracking paint:

I do NOT recommend anyone painting their rims themselves, no matter how good you think you are, or whatever. This is pure proof of that. When I planned on doing this, I saw some really great write-ups, and saw some really great ways people went about it, and jobs people have done. I also then saw where those same individuals who had did such a good job ran into the problem everybody has when they DIY paint wheels: they start looking like shit. I thought because I was going even harder, and doing more than all these other people did and all that, that it wouldn't happen to me. Man was I wrong, its definitiely the paint. You cannot do a professional job with a can. Go the extra mile and get them powder-coated. DUPLI-COLOR WHEEL PAINT DOESN’T CUT IT, YOU HEARD IT HEAR FIRST!

Also, I’m actually selling the rims for $50, no tires.

I’m keeping the tires for my new 19”s. 3 tires are good, and the other tire is the chewed up one that I am just getting rid of.

The rims are Kyowa KR206 19"s. And as you can see in the beginning of the thread, they come in aluminum, and black.

Honestly, they can be restored, but its gonna be a hell of a project. They need to be painted again, I would recommend powered-coated, but you can always do what I did all over again.

The one rim with the 2 bends and 2 cracks is really a done deal. It could be restored, as in needs both cracks welded, and you could ride the rims with the bends, but it’s a stretch.

I would probably suggest to buy one new black rim (or two if you don’t want to mess with the other one thats got the one crack either) and keep the others and repaint them black. You would end up saving some money.

I’m really like giving these rims away, so if anyone local is interested, let me know

So.....lesson here....

Don't by cheap, off-brand wheels. Especially not in big sizes. Cheap wheels are not strong, and with a rubber band tire, hitting pothole after pothole will eventually bend/crack them. I also know from experience.

Gotta buy real wheels next time, yo.

^I honestly do not think Kyowa is that bad. There not the everyday $125-$150 a rim wheels. They go for around $200-$250 a wheel, and from what I've seen, most of their rims are around that, or more.

The reason they cracked is because they are seriously light weight, I don't think because they are cheap, but who knows.

My boy with the Helo Tease on the RSX cracked one up in Philly about 2 months ago, and I think they are even better than my Kyowa's.

Now I'm not saying they are the best rim in the world, but they aren't some of these cheap shitters people be riding around on, I think you know what I mean.

From my research, and what I've seen across the net, rims crack. It's just the nature of them. I really don't think unless the wheel is REALLY a well known reputable brand, and a sturdy ass heavy rim, that its going to lessen the chance of cracking. When your riding on a 35, its like only having a condom between you and a bitch who has AIDs lol. Not that much protection!

ESPECIALLY with the roads around here, its fuckin terrible, forreal.

I can really pick a rim up with my index finger with no tire on it with absolutely no problem, no joke. They are lighter than the stock wheels. That's why I always said I feel like my car is faster and runs better with them. I felt like I could float with the 19"s on. And like I said before as well, they didn't even mess up my speedometer, anytime I went by a police speed radar (that tells you the speed your going) it would be right on point.

The new 19"s I'm going to be getting hopefully are going to be "better."

I would like to get XXR 962's, but the options for our car really isn't there.

I might end up gettin XXR 006's.

Now I'm not saying they are the best rim in the world, but they seem like good rims, at a okay price.

And whats your definition of a "real wheel"?
