98 Pathfinder Spark Plugs

I changed 5 out of the 6 spark plugs on my 98 Nissan Pathfinder but I cannot get to the sixth one, located between the engine and the firewall. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

I'm sure you've replaced your plugs already. but im sure this post will help the other two people in the world who own our style pathfinder.

Nissan supplies two spark plug wrenches that are the perfect lengths to change the plugs. The short one is for the plug at the very back of the engine that's almost completely hidden.

When I changed mine last I noticed there was a lot of sand/dirt in the holes the plugs are in which blocked the "nut" part of the plug. So i just blew it out with my air compressor and a long fitting. Others have used cans of compressed air to get it out.

top 2 plugs 98 pathfinder

so i just changed the plugs for a friend of mine, never having worked on a nissan before. got 4 out of 6 done including the one in the back. but the 2 deep ones on top i couldnt get out. there seems to be some rubber in the hole above the plug. the top of the plug is sticking out but i cant see (or get a wrench on) the nut section of the plug. i looked at the old wire and dont see anywhere on the rubber that separated off and stayed in there. i cant figure out anyway to try and pry it out without tearing half the engine off.

anyone had this problem .... or any ideas?

p.s. she hadnt changed the plugs/wires in about 5 years.

thanks, mike

mike, you know how some spark plug SOCKET tools have a rubber"RING"
tucked inside the sockets?(so when you loosen the plug that rubber ring
will "hold the spark plug"so you can remove\install them).maybe one is
stuck on there. you might just take the rubber out of a sparkplug socket
and smoosh it onto the stuck rubber .it shouldnt be able to break any of the
metal in the plug hole or the 'nut"part of the old plug. or if its stuck on to tight for long nose -needle nose or superglue on a screwdriver you could try an "exacto" model\hobby knife(the handles are long or you can secure an extension)and the blades are razor sharp so reaching it in and slicing the rubber might help remove it

98 Nissan Pathfinder Sparkplugs

I have a 98 Nissan Pathfinder and would like to know what NGK plug is recommended I see some Irdium plugs listed also a Platinum plug. Do some last longer and help with mileage and power a little or lot. Looks like I could spend from $18 to $88 for 6 plugs. If you have a plug # that would help eliminate any confusion and give me something to ask for.

Thanks
