i have a 93 nissan pickup(vg30 v-6 5 speed longbed)
and the factory gauges have no tachometer just a blank plate
even though the truck is a stickshift ,i was told only a 93 truck or
pathfinder would fit so i see a 93 pathfinder part out on craigslist
and drive out to the sticks and buy the gauges for 30
same size, similar look, with a tach! but notice his door jamb says 92
so i cut the gauges plugs and take em with me(glad i did because even though the cable type speedometer and overall shape size of the gauges were the same the wires were way different ,anyway long story long
i made a wire label kit with stickers and since gauges have the circuts
all labeled for each wire was able to splice em onto my trucks wires
and EVERYTHING WORKS FINE and im confident in it all (i even had to wire my trucks check engine light wire to an empty circut on the 92 pathfinder
gauges and plug a bulb into an empty spot previously blank on the
warning lights plate and cut out my old check engine spot on the old plate
and glue it over the blank spot so it looks normal ...continued

continued....because the pathfinders gauges had no check eng light or it was somewhere else on the dash....anyways EVERYTHING WORKS and im happy with my results
now my question is when i was testing all the plugs i fished out of my 93 truck dash taht werent in use since i figured the tach plug was somewhere
in there using my multimeter i found some of them were power some ground
but couldnt find one that had a rpm variable signal while reving and testing wires so i start testing wires off the distributer ,still no tach signal
test coil wires ,still nothing ,finally the power transistor's (i think it was the brown wire
is the one .and i spliced in and ran it into the truck to the tach and it WORKS FINE
MY ACTUAL QUESTION IS.......
is this where the tach signal should come from?
does anyone know where people should run ...say,an after market
tach signal wire im just asking because at first i thought it would be off the distributor or coil but none of those tested to be variable with the gas pedal
as for why i didnt buy just an after market tach....i think it looks out of place
zip tied to the steering column un matching other gauges and these
pathfinder ones have features my truck ones dont like clock, trip meter,
white numbers and needles, nice key chime and a tach that matches and doesnt look racey

i wrote so much i should have just asked if its ok to get tachometer
(r p m gauge)signal from the power transistor
its working fine though i just thought it would come from
more like the coil or distributor harnesses
other mods ive done on this 93 nissan vg-5speed truck....
*installed a 90 maxima se leather steering wheel ,4-spoke non airbag
had to make my own horn contacts for the spinning connection
*92 maxima se leather shift knob spins right on(had to replace
palm side leather half with red leather and stitch it back
together)nice! and stuck the shift boot on there on top of the
stock one looks better than the long skinny stick but someday
will make a bigger leather shift boot to replace both
*cd player, door speakers(mounted 6.5 on the door and the spkr grills
on the panels
*i put in an old alarm my friend gave me that was removed from
his old cutlass like 10 years ago and the remote batteries still
work after all those years(had to run a passenger side door pin
since the was none (used 89-94&? maxima door pin)
*added an extra ground wire kit (from the neg battery terminal
to "piggyback on" the existing factory grounds in the engine bay
(to frame ,block,2 fuel inj grounds, alternator,to other frame)
would like to find a way to add on the dist, coil etc.
*swapped + spliced in 92 pathfinder gauges with tachometer,clock.trip,etc.
*still thinking of new mods

How bad were the Max seats to fit in there? I have a 95 with a bench and would like something nice to swap in there eventually.
....DID not say maxima seats,(just steering wheel ,shift knob, shiftboot, door pins ... for now,and 92 pathfinder gauges(had to splice in harnesses)
although you could probaly fit maxima or more likely pathfinder bucket seats
ive seen a truck like mine with bucket seats and center console and it looked factory nissan but looked a few years newer(1st gen frontier?)what year
and trim are you playing with?

my original point was to ask if i can tap into the power transitors wire
to give rpm signal to my tachometer equipped gauges from a 92 pathfinder
which i spliced into my 93 nissan pickup that had no tachometer even though
its a five speed v-6
the list of maxima parts you qouted me on was maxima parts ive also swapped into this 93 nissan truck
then the reply before yours somehow mis-read that i swapped in the maxima
seats ,i dont know why he asked that? or why you are asking about the car
what car?

mofo say waaa?i made no mention of the word seat or any related
word any where in any of my posts
that list is all the 89-94 maxima parts
ive also swapped into my 93 nissan pickup truck
Sounds like truck is bad ass!! where is power resister wire exactly because i put a tach out of a 86? all of my wiring hookups were there but tach still doesnt work. plz post specifics, so i can figure something out.
Other things that interchange are doors from a pathfinder. but wiring electric windows are tricky!! also the bucket seats fit too. the holes for the inside rails were even there. the console in front of the shifters fit but i had to manipulate some sort of computer.
on another note, arcade video game steering wheels, will fit . just have to get an adapter kit. mine came off that old racing game that looked like a ferarri.

.....mine(v-6)was behind the coil + it has 3 wires,i think its the brown wire,
its the only wire that had a voltage reading that was consitent with
engine speed i could find(i tested all extra plugs in the dash ,at the distributor,at the coil etc.). my original question with this thread was if the
power transistor wire(brown i think)is ok for tachometer signal? its been working for 50 miles and counting.

......is the game called "hard driving"?
thanks for info on tach gauge. havent checked it out yet. run wire to back of tachometer? I think that the game was hard driving. I remember yellow flags when finishing level and a 360 loop that was hard to get off.
Never thought of putting a steering wheel out of a Maxima into a truck, great suggestion. Also remember Infinity, many of the same interior pieces are the same from the Maxima to the Infinity.......to the trucks. I also have a '97 Altima, and it came with the typical cassette player and underneath that was a storage pocket. The same years Maximas have a couple of different offerings in their center stacks. One is a push open drawer, the other is a pocket with a flipdown face. I have found both, the push open drawer in the Maximas are black, whereas the Infinity comes in a woodgrain front, this is what I dropped into my Altima, it matches the ugly woodgarin strip in the center of the dash. I have the other style in my '93 SE V6 4X4, I put it in the bottom area, the storage area that's exclusive to the '93's only.
As to the tach, the wiring should already be behind the dash. When these trucks rolled off the assembly line, they all had the same wiring harnesses, the only difference is at the end, if the truck got the full package, the wiring was already there, if it was a stripped package, the plugs simply weren't used. This was a cost saving move made by many automakers.
