Smile Newbie First Post with dash/parking light problem

First, hello to all in the forum. I'm glad I found this site. I think I'll get a lot out of it. I've got a problem with my 1994 Nissan King V6-SE. I just bought it "AS IS" the day before yesterday and now find that the parking lights and dash lights don't work. The headlights and brake lights work fine. The horn, wipers and turn signals all work too. I checked the interior fuse box and underhood relay box and can't find anything blown. After looking around on the web, I found some information that makes it sound like this is a common problem to these trucks and that I should replace the turn signal switch/arm. I did get track down and get ahold of the old owner, (I bought this from a car lot)who says that he remembers having to "jiggle" the turn signal for the lights to work but that was a long time ago. What do you guys think? If that's what you recommend, where can I find instructions on how to take out the old one and install the new one? Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions you have.

This is a typical problem with the HB's. I had to replace mine on my '93 SE V6 4x4 late last year, picked it up used from a JY for $11. Your first set of contacts are probably worn.

Removal is as about as basic as you'll find. Remove upper and lower steering column covers and there should be two small phillips head screws holding it in place, then unclip the harness. Installation is the opposite.

I'm not sure on the price of a new one. Since I have a '93, my CC is on the stalk and the price was a little higher when I called ($135), whereas the '94's have the CC in the steering wheel, if yours is equiped with it. Which would make the price cheaper.

You could always take it out and gently clean the contacts with fine grit sandpaper, I did this on an old 720 I used to own, it lasted until I sold it.

Thanks for the reply 1800bucks! I took the covers off and it's just as you said. This is about the easiest I've had. My last truck was a '91 GMC 1500 and I had to pull the wheel and tear the column apart to get to the turn signal arm. I'm just going to order me a new one to be done with it. They must have anticipated the part wearing out so made it easy to replace. I hope everything I end up doing with this truck is this easy! I am rapidly becoming a Nissan convert! Again, thanks for the advice.
