Similarities between '95 pathfinder and honda passport?

How alike are the '95 nissan pathfinder and honda passport v6 engine-wise? I figure since bodystyle-wise they look almost identical that they might use the same engine platform. I have a friend who is having a ticking sound problem coming from a cylinder on his passport and it's driving him insane as to what it could be. Just from the sound of it, it sounds like a bad valve spring to me, but i could be wrong. Any idea what it could be?

And yes i've already looked at the honda forums but they don't have a passport forum so no luck there. Just trying to help a friend out.

thanks man. well bodywise that year of all 3 of those look eerily similar to me. which i thought was wierd becuase I know honda and nissan don't share platforms like nissans and infinitis do. I'll check out the isuzu forums(if i can find any) and look around there... from experience though, the ticking noise sounds too loud to be the injectors and too soft to be anything like a bad connecting rod. I used to have an 89 s10 that had a similar noise and it ended up being a bad valve spring(hence that being my first thought on his passport.)

you can sometimes feel exhaust leaks with your hand. you can also hear them with a pipe.
or, look for carbon soot streaks around the ports.

ok. i'll have him try that. I believe he was thinking about putting new gaskets(valve cover, exhaust manifold) anyways so that might just fix the problem if that's it. Although the ticking sounds kinda metallic so i'm not sure if it's being cuased by an engine part or a leaky gasket. Appreciate the help man.

Might want to check out Pirate4x4. Like has been said, the Rodeo and the Passport are one and the same. It should have the 3.2L Isuzu in it. Pirate4x4 are some diehard offroaders, but IIRC, there is an Isuzu forum on there.
