Im having problems with my navigation door shutting only half way. Usually, the door would close all the way each time I turn the car off...and then open up all the way when the car would be turned on. Now, it's only closing half way...so it gets stuck and it looks pretty tacky. Already took it to Nissan and even though I have the most expensive warranty available until 100,000 miles, they said any navigation component is not covered - even that little navigation door. Any suggestions, ideas...anything?
sure. take it to any place that installs stereos. they are more familiar with the navigation system on your car than the dealer. If you feel that it should be covered before the bumper to bumper warranty runs out, get a nissan rep to look at it.

If you have comprehensive coverage then you should make them do it or give you a written explanation why they won't. This should be covered.

bestbuy fixed mine for 22 bucks. there was a piece of trash in the track. that lid pops off pretty easy on the z. I find in general that dealers just suck. and thats after working for them for 22 years. Don't take this as a slur against nissan, I do like both my cars, but when something goes wrong, you have to jump through a million hoops to get it fixed.

I hate taking it to the stealership to get anything done. I have comprehensive coverage, but hate it when I actually have to use it. You have to jump throught hoops and they fight you every step of the way.
my favorite line that was used that last time my nismo went in because they left the 6 spacers in my front springs! the service manager says, why is it the only time you bring in that car is when something is wrong with it? well duh!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey thanks guys....Best buy huh? Well, I'm calling them tomorrow and hopefully they'll do something. Also just to let you guys know...I did file a complaint with Nissan customer service and even though they took my report down they still denied fixing the navi door for me. So, there it is. Warranty does suck!
I'm sorry to hear about that update. The stealership is one shady place. I took my car in for the rear axel click, which is a well known problem and they know that it's covered under warranty but they still tried to tell me it wasn't covered. After being on the phone with them throughout the day on multiple phone calls they finally agreed that it was covered. They wanted me to pay $180, lmao. If you can get it done cheap at Best Buy or wherever, then maybe it's not worth the hassle but if it turns out to be somewhat costly I would go back to stealership and keep trying to get them to honor their warranty.
If you do decide to go back and they try to deny you get them to specifically show you why it's not covered. Have them give you an exact reference to the contract that backs up their position, and then have them give you a written explanation of why they feel it is not covered under comprehensive coverage (which covers the entire car except for things like brakes and tires). After that, if you still want to fight it I think you can file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and they will go after the stealership on your behalf. I'm not sure about this but I remember reading something like that. You can look it up if you google "Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act". Per the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act it is their responsibility to prove why they can deny your warranty.
I can understand if you don't want to do the ^ stuff, but it's a suggestion.
sorry to hear its gone on this long. Mine had a issue with the paint. It looked like weld splatter had hit the sail panel, roof and rear glass. After 3 weeks of talking to nissan corp. they sent 2 techs from smyrna tn. to look at it. they agreed about what it was, but didn't know how it happened so denied warranty. Its a nismo, picked off the line and taken by altech to weld the body seams. well duh! thats where the splatter came from. I'm in the process of sueing them for the repair costs. it seems if you pay cash for the car, you are just screwed.
Hey thanks, Z33Driver, for your suggestions. I rewrote Nissan Consumer Affairs a message and explained that they have offered me no justifiable reason as to why they are not repairing my problem. Actually, I forgot to mention what they said over the phone the other day, so here it is: "Well, sir, the panel has decided to deny financial assistance with your problem due to the mileage on the vehicle and the fact that it has been out of original manufacturer's warranty for some time". I was like "****!"...I only have 50,000 miles on my car and it's been out of manufacturere warranty for 15,000 miles. That's bullshit.
Anyway, I wrote a threatening message saying I reviewed my service agreement and found NOTHING in there saying they will not cover my navigation lid. THe closest thing I found is a part where it says they won't cover, "any and all in-vehicle communications systems". I figure this is the navigation, but it's not clear if it's referring to the actual lid, which is "mechanical" in nature. THis is where the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act would come in useful. Anyway, I'll keep you guys updated.

If you have the extended warranty you need to bring this to their attention. It's their job (informally of course) to come up with ways to deny your warranty. Make sure they know you have the extended warranty and that it should be covered. Let us know what happens.
hi i would like to know if the navigation system is free to use or i have to pay for use it... because i have on my car but i want to fix it but if i have to pay i dont want to lol
