Could you live off of $26,000 a year?

I am 1 week from getting my B.S. so ive been looking for jobs. A place called me today and offered me $12 @ about 40 hours a week. Ive had better job offers so i passed, but honestly, could anyone actually live off of this amount? Keep in mind you would have $120 in student loans a month, you'll be needing a new car in about a year, and average rent where i live is about $500 a month (per person, two bedroom so about $1000 for the apartment total).

Sacramento is a lot like Purgatory; you're 100 miles from the ocean, you're a 100 miles from Tahoe, and all you do here is sit in traffic.

$26K is before taxes. I have better offers, but the thought of living on $26K blows my mind.

Job would be an assistant manager at a local retail place called shopko (kind of like k-mart).

Currently ive taken a job working for an insurance company in claims (at $34,000), so like i said i turned down the job. I couldnt move home if i took that job because of the distance (not to mention my parents made my room into a home theater in the four years i was gone).

I am a single (girlfriend, but not married) no kids, own my own car with 150,000 miles on it (so its got what i guess to be a year left), have $20,000 about in student loans...

I figured after all expenses i would have a whole $150 at the end of the month, impossible. I can work with the $34,000...

You know, you guys should just talk to EDGE. Maybe he can hook you up with a janitorial or security guard job that pays like $250k a year.

I started at 26k exactly... got a brand new 3000gt and lived life to its fullest...

the key is having roomates/girlfriends to split bills...

2166 a month, after taxes say $1700

Bills:
rent=400
car=350
gas=80
ins=100
pwr=50
food=200
misc=200
-------------
1380

I made it for 2 yrs on it very happily

Life is what you make it, dont bury yourself in bling bling

I will graduate with over $30,000 in loans. why? because i get NO financial aid, and i have to pay for half of my education (with is approx 12,000 a year out of my pocket)

Cook your own food instead of going to McDonalds or something, you can save a lot of money that way.
