My parents did something like that with my younger brother. His first car which was a 92 ES300 5sp which he totalled after 4 months. Then they turned around and got him a 2001 Honda Accord V6 which he fell asleep at the wheel driving home from college and wrecked 7 months later. Now he drives a Daewoo Leganza which he's had twice as long mainly because he brought it with his own money. My parents never brought me a car and I think thats why I hold onto my cars more because I pay for it out of my own hard earned money. Your parents should've let your brother get his own car. My parents finally learned the hard way and has since contributed 0 funds towards my brothers vehicle.. BTW he's 20.

yea .. i pay for my car and paied for my downpayment too...
and
yea i told them ... 250 HP to the rear wheels for a kid who woulcnt handle my old altima or his 240.. big mistake
not only that he might not even pass his sr. year ... i dont see why he deserves it ....
my parents got me my first car that i never crashed or got a ticket in. the second car i "had" was my dad's altima cuz he never drove it and he had my olds for when he did drive it. the altima i hit twice, but nothing serious. now i have a max that my dad paid for, but he got the money for it out of a lawsuit and the money i earn goes towards bills, so i don't really feel like he paid for me. my stepbrother, on the other hand, is a complete waste of life. his dad gave him the 01 chrysler sebring he got for his ex, and he gave the car to his friend, who had no license, to drive, and of course he crashed. so his dad fixed it and took it away cuz he couldn't sell it. so then the genius takes it, and hits it again. not to mention the interior is all nasty and the car drives like shit. what a spoiled brat.
hmmm, my parents got me 94 altima 2 years ago, and i took care of this car, but it got totalled 8 month ago. So i bought my own, and and i started to kick shit out of it like it's not mine. What's wrong with me?
My sister borrows my mom's car even though she has her own (that the parents paid for), just because she doesn't want to pay for gas!!!
lol, i do that hehe every now and then i strategically time my visits to my folks when the fuel is running low ! i leave the car there and low and behold my old man will use it and magically by the time i get it back its got a full tank !
as far as buying cars for kids etc. i disagree. buying them something won't spoil 'em - that comes from a long history of fiscal irresponsibility. I mean giving a kid with a proven bad record a 350z, thast usin' yer noggin. quite simply some good old fashioned values haven't been enforced, i don't care how much money they got to throw around - pure cause and effect IMO.
not everyone is stingy, and i respect my parents for their policy, always thrifty, yet would always open the purse when needed, we're never left needy - sometimes you have to make hard decsions and deprive your kids of frivolous things for their own good. but by the same token i'm sure as hell i'm not gunna kick my kid out of home at 18 "like it or not" and watch them scrape for a death trap just so they can work to get themselves through school. In this case, giving a irresponsible narcoleptic a 350z is even worse. While in the former, you could claim that you're trying to enforce some kind of valuesa nd independance, the latter is just plain stupidity. Then again, the nut doesn't fall far from the tree.
yep, they're like that.. i realise what i said can be open to liberal interpretation.
i'll clarify. we're first gen ethnic immigrants. lol, enuff said. "open the purse" is very strong. hell we cut containers to extract every last vestige. Like i said, fiscal responsibility goes a long way. There's abig difference b/w "need" and "want". and no, i don't expect more than 2 in 5 americans or 7 in 10 aussies to know that.
not only that he might not even pass his sr. year ... i dont see why he deserves it ....
He probably doesn't. I have a similar situation, or had, til I finally conviced my mom to stop being an enabler. My sis is going to be 53 this month. Doesn't have a full time job, nor has she ever kept one for long. Sponged off both parents constantly, yada, yada, yada. Yet, she still gets sympathy from my mom. I asked for a loan ONCE and was made to sign a promisory note. Sometimes, parents have tunnel vision. Sucks, for the odd guys out.
My God. It amazes me how many parents spoil their children. I'm glad I paid everything myself. It helped me mature, and become responsible quicker than I would have if they bought me everything.
