Just had a phone interview/screen session w/Google and....
...I did ok I'm interviewing for a Software Engineer in Test position. Im not interested in test, but I'm hoping if i get this it will open doors into development at Google for me. In any case, SETs get to do a lot of dev it sounds like, it's not QA which is much more high level (and the exact opposite of what im trying to do)
anywyas, it lasted a little less than an hour. Basically you use this program called Writely (it's a shared whiteboard so the person interviewing can see the code you write). So he was asking me questions over phone, and the coding questions I had to write out in this program. He asked me to create a class/interface for someone who would want to implement a binary tree. So that was simple. Then he asked me to write a function to compare two binary trees. Well, this should have been easy, but I blanked on the spot. He ended up changing the question to "write a function to traverse a binary tree" as i was working on it.
I was nervous and couldnt think what I had to do, even though it was really simple. Fortunately he helped me out and gave me hints and stuff, but I totally forgot to do it RECURSIVELY until he told me...and then I got it. But he was looking for recursion from the beginning, and I totally blanked until he finally had to tell me. bleh.
*edit*
this guy was just a screener, so he takes notes of the interview, then gives them to a committee who decides if they want to continue the interview process.

thanks guys, I'll need it. Google got just short of 1.2 million applications last year, and just 1/500 of those (2200) got a job, so its a looong shot.
Hope you get it... We need a .net google insider to save .net members once google takes over the world.

if you were any good in bed your wife would have remembered your anniversary and you would have gotten laid july 1.
it's not easy to get an interview there. If you just send in your resume, that's not enough. Not to mention, if your GPA is below like a 3.7 they probably won't even sniff the rest of your resume, assuming you already got someone to go as far as reading your GPA (my undergrad wasnt even close, like a 3.2, and my graduate is more like a 3.6). I had to do a little networking to get my resume to the right people.
but hey, if i somehow manage to land this gig, free breakfast/lunch and dinner for everyonE!!!
