Vacation pictures

Well, now that my mom has gone back home (after a three week visit), all I have from our vacation are good memories and a lot of pictures. I thought I'd share a few pictures of our travels.

One of the things we did was take a Rhine river cruise. Here are some pictures we took from the boat;

We also took a trip through the Bavarian Alps;

The village of Hohenschwangau with the Hohenschwangau castle and the Schwangausee (Swan Lake) in the background;

Of course, no trip through the Bavarian Alps would be complete without a trip to Neuschwanstein;

And, the view from our hotel;

Together, we took almost 900 pictures.

The German Countryside Towns seem to have been deliberately built for great vacation pictures...

Where are you at in Germany again Michael? I was at the Rhine near downtown dusseldorf. Beautiful pics, the scenery through-out Germany is amazing. The only thing I didn't like about Germany was the weather, always seems dreary. Looks like you got some sunny days on your trip though.

More Pictures:

Right after my mom got here, we visited a medieval festival at Burg Lichtenberg;

Where my widowed mother met her knight in shining armor;

Sadly, the romance wasn't meant to last as her knight was killed shortly thereafter;

Here's a picture taken inside the walls of Burg Nanstein in Landstuhl;

A view of the walkplatz in Kaiserslautern;

On 07-07-07 we took a cruise down the Rhine to witness the annual "Rhine Aflame". It's a nighttime cruise where all of the castles along the route are illuminated in red to appear as if they are on fire. As the boats pass the castles, each castle takes turns setting off a barrage of fireworks. The event is supposed to represent the many battles that were fought among the castles throughout history. The result is spectacular and the camera just can't capture the beauty of the event.

you went past rudesheim on that boat ride. cool place. there's cable cars that go up the hill, over the vineyard, to the top. there's a big statue up there and a restaurant. awesome view up there. dont know if you got to see any huge beer stein's, but there's a shop in that town that had like a 5 or 6 foot one, when i was there in 02. germany's a blast. glad ya had fun.

That's where we boarded the boat, right across the river from the statue. I'd been up to the statue a few years ago. I've been living in Germany for just over seven years now and I've wanted to get one of the giant steins, but I can't justify the cost, nor can I think of any place in the house to put it that it wouldn't look tacky--cool, but tacky.
