Commuting isn’t sexy. In fact, I don’t think commuting even qualifies as cool in most people’s book. Which is kind of odd when you consider just how much dedication is required to slog your ass to work day in and out—dodging errant SUVs and potholes, only to arrive at the office slathered in a thick mucous-y slop. That, in my book, is pretty damn hardcore..

can't say i am surprised. if the defense made a good argument that the officers really believed that they or others were in immediate danger then they have the right to use weapons.

very unfortunate case.

Hopefully there won't be any... I want to believe people can disagree with a verdict without resorting to rioting.

I think this was the right verdict, however, this is a tough case to call.

I don't think the cops purposely shot these guys for no reason. I believe them when they said that they thought one of the guys had a gun. I think the fact that the victims got in the car after the officers told them to stop and bumped one of them was what led them to believe that someone had a weapon. I do think that the shooting was excessive (one cop shot 31 rounds!) but overall, I just think it comes down to poor police judgement and miscommunication between the officers (they thought they were getting shot at when in reality it was their guns, which is why they kept shooting). To convict these guys of manslaughter is too much. They will get eaten alive in jail for a honest mistake. It's just a shame that a life lost as a result of the whole incident.

But to let them walk away with nothing? They took an innocent man's life. Not even a ****in reckless endangerment verdict? They had bullets flying everywhere. A couple of shots to get your point across is fine. 50 shots is like WTF

I agree, the fact that htey didn't even get the reckless endangerment is the big problem i think it is

I hear you there. I definitely feel that 50 shots was way too much. That one cop shot 31 times!! He emptied his gun, reloaded, then emptied it again. No doubt in my mind that it was excessive. But the trial was to convict them of manslaughter, which I don't think they were guilty of.

the trial was for manslaughter, but they also had charges of reckless endangerment on all of them, that were ALL not guilty...so....they could have easily given that charge

Agreed. I didn't know they had those other charges as well. I thought it was just manslaughter.

remember, there's also that case on Long Island where a black man shot and killed a white teen with an illegal gun at the end of his driveway, and he's not going to jail. His justification was he thought his home and family were going to be lynched by a group of white teens. He could have easily ran back into his home and dial 9-1-1 instead.

Thank God two of the cops were black, will make it much harder for Al Sharpton/Jesse Jackson to incite violence.

As far as deadly force is concerned, unless a cop has been or is certain he will be violently hit to cause severe injury or death, then shooting at/into a vehicle should never happen. See that BS on tv all of the time. Guy is trying to drive away to avoid arrest and gets shot to death by a cop because he barely nudged him while driving away.

I asked one of my sisters who is a Cop in Memphis what she thought about it, and she said that they were wrong! She basically agreed to the excessive force or what have you, and she said that they shouldn'ty have never fired like that into the car, unless they were being shot at themselves.

My view of it is, if a group a cats run up on my car right after one of my friends just got into it with someone in a club, I'm gunning it too! It was poor judgment and communication on the officers part, and it cost a man his life! For them not to get any punishment is rediculous.....especially the gun happy fool who went through 2 clips! He should've been the main one getting hit with manslaughter!

I agree with what you guys are saying but i still stand by the fact that this could have all been avoided if the guy would have never ran to his car like that. Lots of things are running through the minds of the police and i dont blame them. I do believe 50 shots is overkill and they should have been found guilty on endangerment charges.

It is a tough call. Being a cop can not be fun. I have met some good ones and some bad ones. I think even the bad ones were at one time good ones that got beaten down by the job. 31 times might be excesive but in that situation you fire your first magazine and then you still hear gun shots near you so you reload and fire again. You can not take the chance that it is your partners or the perp shooting.

I can not believe that they did not convict the black cops however. I am pretty sure that Bush commented on it and ordered the judge to convict them and aquite the white guy. Everybody know that Bush hates black people. I am sure that he is ordering a justice department investigation of how the black cops got off.
