From what I have heard about the 8sp is that they get whine around a few thousand miles, burn and bubble the trans fluid and then KA BOOM!!! Most of the guys want the ZF 6 Speed back...like I have

That ZF is what you want dude. From what I've read they're rock fvckin solid.

Also, IMHO you don't need more than 6-7 gears (a few short ones for accel and one or two tall ones for highway). After that you're sneaking towards CVT with all the gears (too many ratios).
