that last thing you mentioned, is almost exactly what I am getting. To me, it's more of a thud/clunking sound, but yeah, it happens over bumps, big and (mostly) small, and even after the bump has been passed.
yeah exactly...seems as tho something could be loose and rocking back and forth...if its the ball joints, i should know this friday/saturday as they will be replaced...my struts have arrived, but not in my possession as the duty fees are ridiculous, they have a new invoice from d2 saying its warranty replacement...once i have those, all i need is a warm day and i'll be goin to work on em...i'll let you know what's up once the ball joints are replaced...

good, let me know. The more and more I think about it, the more and more I think it's the springs and not the struts/strut mount/ball joints. I dunno why, I just have a feeling. Maybe because I saw how close the lowest coils get to each other on the springs. We'll see though eh?
BTW, I broke a stud off my camber plate, and called up Urban to find out if they can get me another one. They said they can't, and can only get me a whole new camber plate for $50 shipped. Not bad, but all I need to do is replace the stud. I can't find a similar stud at the hardware shop though...
BUT anyway, I also asked if they do in fact make rear camber plates for the D2's, and they told me they didn't I'm hella confused since Black Hornet said they gave him camber plates for the rears on his D2's?
i was also thinking that that spring coils are touching near the bottom/top...im gonna look for contact when i work on em next...what mike at urban import told me was that the spring should fit in between the upper/lower mounts but still be able to move by hand...so im gonna try and loosen them up a little more and see what happens...also gonna up the stiffness from full soft and see if that helps cuz it'll cause the springs to not compress as much...
so the ball joints and hawk pads went in today...from what i could see, the noises were definitely being caused by the spring coils touching each other...what joey (taz) recommended when i called him was to cut off about an inch from the start of lowest and highest coil to eliminate the contact and still maintain the overall flat surface of the spring...
what i did notice when driving the car was the fact that i gained alot of steering response, even tho i didnt really think it could get any better...also, minimal noises...my crib is only a 5 minute bumpy ass city drive from my mechanics, so i figured it may have been the ball joints after all, but i am getting some knock up top, prolly pillow ball mounts...i cant be too sure that it was the ball joints after all, i still think its the springs...i'll know the next few times i drive the car...
I'll be interested to find out what comes from this. I had a friend rock my car from side to side, and I keep hearing lots of different noises, but at the least I think it is the ball joints in my case as I can hear a distinct popping sound coming from right inside the actual wheel portion of the wheel-well, and not so much from up top or near the springs. Only one way to find out though.
do it man...unfortunately i've been playing video games all night tonight, a bit of a change for me...havent driven the car at all...long commute back to school tomorrow so i should know what the deal is...doesnt make much noise at all on the highway, but once i get into my university town, i'll know...cuz the roads are ridiculous bumpy...i wonder what the noises in the rear could be...it sounds like the springs popping...but they are by no means preloaded back there...the strut nut up top may be too tight...need warm weather to figure this shit out...
prolly gonna use a bench grinder or something to do it...i have no idea as yet...gonna cut it on an angle as well...the weather has been pretty shit, so who knows when i'll get around to it...and i cant put my rims on til its done either cuz of alignment n shit...arrrgghhh...D2's sucks cuz they are noisy!!!
lol, are you absolutely POSITIVE it's the springs?
I took my car to an auto-x two days ago, and there are tons of various noises through and through on the car, but the same old noises I had are still here EXCEPT LOUDER. There's no way the springs could have been put through that kind of stress, I'm guessing in my case at the moment wheel bearings or ball joint still.
But, I'll know soon enough. I got my H&R's from Twan, and if it still makes those sounds with the H&R's I'll know it's not the springs. Also, in a week or two I should be replacing a lot of my front suspension including control arms and knuckles (hopefully, God willing), so if the noise goes away when those are replaced we'll know it was something there.
