87 Pulsar engine mod

Ok all... I have an absolutely straight, still smells new inside, 87 pulsar with a blown e16. I know that the CA18 will drop right in but am wondering if the 5 speed tranny will work or need to be replaced with a tranny for the CA18? Also, what other engines might be a good change? I see that the SR engines and the KA engines seem pretty easy to find. Will either of those motors drop in without too much change? Thanks.

An import only salvage yard should be able to answer engine interchangeability questions. DP`s Auto Recyclers (520)574-9444 ask for Ben and ask him. Then maybe you can locate a motor near you. good Luck.

You can also call the Beaverton Oregon Nissan dealership, and ask for parts, and ask for the top guy in there. He is a classic nissan enthusiast. I went in to see if a part was still made for my 82 720 4x4, (which is wasn't), but after I told him it was on a lift he just HAD to come take a look at it. Next thing I know it's three and a half hours later and I'm walking out after a good long talk. The guy is a WEALTH of knowledge. Sorry I don't have the phone number, but if you have comcast phone, or some other phone with free long distance, it's worth the call. He'll pull out all the old books and check. He even has the old NISMO catalogs(yes they are a NISMO authorized dealer), and such so he can tell what parts were ever made for performance, or anything else.

The CA18 might drop in but there are a lot more to deal with especially the wiring. No the E16 tranny will not fit the CA18 motor. Also CA18 tranny is hydraulic while E16's are cable. If you have quite a bit of knowledge with Nissan older engines, I will drop an SR20 instead. Non turbo so you can use ones from G20 and Older Se-r's. Turbo you will need the bluebird tranny (FWD) else are 4wd.
