Angry Speed limiters on the R32

I have got a R32 Gtst Skyline and I have been getting aftermarket mods for it so I can have an absolutely tough car. But I am faced with the problem that my Skyline will not go past 200km/h and when it does it basically shuts down. Does anybody know how to fix this problem?

I know in the R33 GTS-t you can cut a wire that connects into the ECU (wire 53 from memory – In the 33’s at least) and this will remove the speed limiter and have heard you can do the same for the R32’s as well. This would be a quick, easy and cheap solution to your problem. However I have heard rumours of some having problems with the HICAS after this modification has been done, this is probably not something you want to play up at +200kph speeds. I guess if you’re keen enough you could search around for a R32 wiring diagram and find out which wire needs to be cut.

Alternatively, as you are in the process of modifying your car you should look at some sort of aftermarket ecu. You could go for a Power FC if your car is manual (you will have to get the AP engineered version for an R32) and this would remove the speed limiter. This would be the preferred option in my opinion.

Why the need to go over 200 kmph, keeping it for the track it hope?

i'm not going to cut any wires because if the steering or anything kicks out at that speed I'm screwed, but thanks for the tip. What is the best aftermarket ECU to get for a R32. I've been looking around but nobody really seems to want to sell them apart from on the internet.

What type of mods do you have or plan to do?

There are heaps of aftermarket ECU options out there for an r32, but I probably like the Power FC the most. The reasons for this are that its really easy to install as its pretty much “plug and play” as it will connect straight in the existing wiring loom and has base tuning maps you can use straight away. The base maps aren’t ideal but will get your car down to wherever your going to get it tuned. The Power FC should do pretty much everything your ever going to need out of an aftermarket ECU for an RB20, and of course solve your speed limiter issues.

It might also pay to check around with local tuners and see what they can suggest for your modifications and most importantly what they are comfortable in tuning. No point getting one type of ECU if you can’t find anyone around you where you live competent enough to tune it.

Hope that helps.

You can cut the Yellow w/ green stripe wire going into your ECU. I havent heard of any HICAS issues with doing that, but if there is an issue the warning indicator should come on as soon as you began to drive, and HICAS only moves the rear wheels a few degrees and really isnt enough to physically notice at low speeds but as I said it will throw a warning light if there is a problem. Cheers fellas this information has been awesome. I looked at cutting the wires and had my mate who is an auto-electrician look at it and he told me that it was viable but I went out and bought the Power FC ECU which had good reviews which has gotten rid of that problem. I also bought of ebay a software program that lets me play with the internals of my motor. Cheers you've been a great help
