07 Altima VS 92 RX7 Turbo

Hello, I am back again with another exciting race story. I was coming back from my fiancee's house when I saw this car coming in fast with a loud hissing noise (turbo noise) and whipped by me. I was like "Hmmm, lets see how I do against one of those". This was a 1992 RX7 Turbo because after the race(s) I ended up knowing him lol.

Anyway, so he did a ricer fly by and I pursuited and did one my self (I know that was gay, but I wanted to see what this car can do). So the first race was about 2nd gear roll on and he was about a car length ahead of me, so he punched it and so did I. He had some crazy turbo lag because once we punched it, I caught that car length than all of a sudden I heard a loud SHHHHHHHHH sound (Turbo noises again) and we were neck to neck than all of a sudden I started walking him a little bit (RX7 did have a passenger, but then his car does weigh like 2600 pounds lol). I was totally shocked I was beating him at top (I guess my Altima has some good top end).

Next race was at a red light, I am starting to get a good feel about launching now. So the lights turn green I pop the clutch while giving it half throttle and then full throttle. I was one and a half cars a head of this dude and than I heard his hissing noises again, but I shift into 2nd I get another car length and after that I didn't notice if I was pulling from him anymore.

After that launch, this RWD RX7 driver told me, lets go from a roll. I was like, I am FWD you should kick my ass off the line. SO he was like alright lets do it agian. Another light, and we were off, I didn't even know what RPM I launched it, I am just getting that nice feel for it now finally. I launched it better this time because I brutally kicked his ass. This RX7 had some serious turbo lag.

Anyway, we do another roll on and we both punch it from 2nd again, this turbo lag lagged him a car length right off the bat and he couldn't catch me after that.

Should have I lost? I don't know. Was his car faster? I don't know because I did walk him slightly from a roll. Did I out drive him? Hell yeah from a dig, I beat him everytime lol. So after the last race he recognized me and was like hey man I know you blah blah blah so we gave each other the thumbs up and we were off.

What really shocked him was that I told him my car was bone stock with 6000 miles on it lol.

Anyway, I think that was a good race, in the beginning, I thought I was get my ass handed. I just underestimate this car sometimes lol.

You never know with turbo cars. Sometimes they are tuned properly for a ton of boost and destroy you and sometimes they are just un-tuned and "lag" behind lol.

Wonder what an SER could have done? Or how about an '02 SE?

Nice kill. Surpising you beat a lighter, turbo RWD car off the line. Good job. Get to the track sometime.

The off the line match was pure driver, I out performed him. He didn't know how to launch his car. However, I have been going to the track for several years now with my other cars (That are made more for drag racing). So once I get used to something, I am hard to beat. FWD are very tricky to launch, but It seems like I am getting it now finally. Hold rpm to 2500, slip dump than 1/2 throttle and then after 4000 RPM BOOM! Give it all you got and don't look back lol.

I am not saying my car is faster than an RX7, this is what I experienced on the road and that was the out come. Why did I beat it? I don't know, shitty tune shitty driver, who gives a crap he lost lol. So far I haven't offically lost in this car so that makes me 5-0-1 (One tie from 2nd to 3rd). THank you all for your support in beating a turbo car lol.

i have a feeling the RX7 wasnt tuned right or the turbo setup isnt set correctly for full power range use which would explain the lag.

Nice kill.

IMO assuming his car is in good shape and mechanically sound (remember its a 15 yr old car) it should have taken you if it was modded. if it was stock, you should take him pretty easily

good thing it was the 92, because the 93+'s are much different animals.

I am not sure how good of a tune was it. You can't just set a turbo setup for a full power range. You have three options when it comes to puny little sewing machine engines with turbochargers strapped on them.

1. Small turbo = very fast spool and you get nice low end torque, but your top end takes a shit.

2. Large turbo = very slow spool up and you get amazing top end and NO torque. No torque as in a GEO METRO will out run you until your turbo kicks in.

3. There are turbo's in the middle of the first two, but than you don't get FULL low end torque and FULL top end, you get mid-range really and thats it.

His car mechanically ran very good or he would of blown something racing it like that lol.

I told you before, I out drove him specially from a dig and his turbo lag didn't help against me from a roll. I just think the boost isn't set very high. He is one of those lets strap on a large turbo without many supporting mods so he had to run low boost maybe 7 PSI or so and the efficiency of those large turbos are at higher boost levels (maybe 18 psi or so).

Asleep "good thing it was the 92, because the 93+'s are much different animals"

Yeah those are pretty good, however, I believe the early 93's ran 14 flat in the 1/4 stock so I mean they are not THAT fast when in their stock trim. Thats like one of my drag cars (Eagle Talon) sure its not that fast stock, but as of today, it can rape my Altima start to finish, dig, roll, reverse, around the bends whatever the race is, my Altima will lose to my Talon. Thats the beauty of turbo cars VS N/A cars, you just need a boost controller to get some good gains which cost $15.00 when you make it yourself.

If it had 200 HP, I would of slaughtered it from a roll on. That means it would dyno around 160ish where the 07's dyno 230 WHP stock. However, the 92 was modded with a larger turbo, intake, exhaust (turbo back) and god knows what else lol.

What is "Keep reppin Nissian proper", that one just went right over my head lol.
