2007 Altima vs 2008 Accord Coupe V6+6M on both

A guy showed up at car club tonight outta the blue with a nice looking black accord coupe V6. He was completely stock so I thought even with an extra 2 doors an intake with a nice 69F would make this run pretty even.

We got to our race spot and lined up only I had 1 passenger and he had 0 passengers.

We go to our spot and had a flagger so we launched. I left traction control on.

3,2,1, go I got a nearly perfect launch with only 2 or 3 chirps through 1st gear. He pretty much spun through all of first so I jumped ahead by almost a car. I hit 2nd gear and he's inching up on me he hits 2nd and chirps (again) and starts reeling me in. I slam it up into 3rd and he basically just starts walking past me, at the top of 3rd he's 1 car ahead. I slam it into 4th and he continues to get away from me by about 110mph or the top of 4th he's a good 2 cars ahead of me.

I shut it down.

that coupe's curb weight is about 3500lbs but even though I had a passenger, he was a slim guy and didn't weigh more than 180lbs. Basically I got slaughtered!

I might race him again after I get an exhaust but damn a stock accord can really give it to you if you. Don't underestimate the 3.5L in the accords, I think the VQ has met its match, the top end on that motor kicks ass, that motor is definitely underrated. And to think all that on regular!

i don't know how you with a 1 car lead off the line loses by 2 in a little more than a 1/4 mile . the power on both cars are similar plus you had an extra passenger which makes the weights similar . what rpm were you shifting at ? were you running cheap gas ? were you shifting fast ?

the new honda accord coupe's are indeed fast, but he should't be able to reel you in like that....the HP/Torque difference isn't that BIG, and neither is the weight....so what he hell....

Sorry to hear that, but knowing those new Accord v6's are quick I would've left my buddy to watch from the side of the road! At least it would've been much closer.

totally agree! back when i used to street race i would always make anyone who was riding with me get out and watch unless i was runing something i knew i was gonna slaughter.

well..good run non the less. kudos on posting a loss and next time do 2 things

1) make him run with a passenger also
2) have ur passenger or his record the race

Nice run! Very impressed with the new Accord Coupe 6MT. Too bad that honda didn't offer the 6MT in the sedan without VCM.

I am just as dissapointed as you guys are.

A few things, I shifted at around 6800 RPM in each gear, I shift fast, I actually shifted faster than he did. When I put the nismo on I wil rematch him WITHOUT a passenger this time. A V6/6M Accord coupe has about the same curb weight as a V6 Sedan 6M but even still he reeled me in and pretty much 3rd gear he left me behind.

He was either stock or spraying, he definitely had stock exhaust tips and there are no other mods out yet for those cars.
My 2nd gear seems to be my strongest gear. Those SOHC's are underrated.

the altima sedan 6MT weighs 3289 lbs and has 270 HP / 258 TQ
the accord coupe 6MT weighs 3446 lbs and has 271 HP / 254 TQ

its basically an even match , but you should have a slight advantage . i still don't understand how you with a 1 car lead off the line would loss by 2 in a little over a 1/4 mile either its your driving or he's hiding something .

p.s. don't you also have a CAI ?

Nah I had a good launch and clean, quick shifts. If it were my shifting he would have inched passed me inbetween gears but even while holding down 4th he's walking away.

I do have the Fujita WAI and I know my car doesn't pull slow at all, I do 0- whatever sprints on occasion just to make sure I'm as fast as I always was.

I'm not really all that surprised now, I just saw the Accord Coupe V6 on motortrend get 14.2 in the quarter @ 102.5mph

I shouldn't have had a passenger though... just a fair warning to all u guys though, don't sleep on them.

Lets throw some math at this.
Altima curb weight: 3289+me= 3520lbs+ my bud = 3700lbs
Accord curb weight: 3389(taken from Motor trend)+driver = 3570lbs. A difference of 129lbs shouldn't make that much of a difference, but then again maybe it will.

honda's site has the car at 3446 lbs so with a 180 lbs driver it would be 3626 lbs so your talking less then 100 lbs .

did you have a full tank of gas ?

maybe honda underrated there engine

he still shouldn't have pulled on you like that IMO .

hopefully you catch him again , leave you friend out of the car next time

It must be in the tranny gear ratios or something fishy under his hood. I had one(V6 coupe) jump on me the other day and even after he got me napping at the change of the light I was able to slowly reel him in somewhat and I had 2 passengers with me. We were both autos...so Im thinking the Hondas MTs are way quicker than the autos or he had a little red button in there with him. Better luck next time.
