Question 3.5 altima vs grand prix?

So I was heading home from work this morning at 7 just on my merry way when a grand prix pulls up next to me. Now after work I will admit I like to open up the throttle a bit more than I would on a normal basis because it keeps me awake on the long drive home after an overnight shift. So the light turns green pretty quickly and I go for about half throttle and this grand prix goes all out. So I make the decision rather late to follow suit. So while I'm at half throttle he gets past my front bumper by the time I put my foot down. Being an automatic I also had to wait for that long ass rev up/downshift combo to happen and by this time I'd say he was more than half a car ahead. Now we're both wide open throttle and he had a bit of a head start but I watch him to about 45 and he's not really going anywhere just pulling ahead little by little and I see his car shift and he pulls ahead a bit faster now. But I was approaching 60 and the speed limit is 50 and can't afford another ticket so I quit. Then another light turns red after a ways and it's me and him again. I was still hesitant and I didn't know if he was gonna floor it again so I don't really try. He floors it of course and I start slow and went not quite WOT but I let him get ahead and I already slowed to about half throttle. I see him get out of WOt and I floor it at that time and blow by him at 70 just for fun. So when I turned to get on the interstate of course he's gonna blow by me and he was probably doing 80 or so I thought that was pretty funny. The whole time I was thinking who wants to race at 7 in the morning lol.
Anyways enough about the fun run with the grand prix I just didn't know where else to post.
Now onto my question. I was trying to figure out what kind he had like how big his engine was and everything. While he was passing me i saw some letters on the side it looked like 3. My friend has a 99 gxp supercharged grand prix so I figured it could be supercharged. So I get home and I look up the different gens and engines they came with and I determined it wasn't the same gen as my friends it was the newest one. From like 2004 or 05 on I think. The engines they came with are a N/A 3.8 l with 200hp a supercharged 3.8l with 260hp and a N/A 5.3 v8 with 303 which I don't think they started putting in till 05 not quite sure just some quick research.
My question is which grand prix do you think it was? I'm about 99% sure it wasn't the n/a 3.8 that's just crazy.
Oh and my only mods are headers and catback magnaflows.

Sorry for the long post for such a simple question.

I was probably a 04-08 GXP with the LS4 5.3L V8. Essentially a slightly detuned 'Vette engine in a FWD configuration. They are pretty nasty.

So initially you really didn't want to race?

But you decided later you did want to race, you're going WOT and so is he, but he's not really going anywhere, but he's pulling ahead little by little and then shifts and pulls ahead faster? Then obviously his car is faster, because you're not pulling on him and he's pulling on you.

So after both of you went WOT before, you didn't think there would be a race at the next light, but of course he goes WOT again? The light changes and you don't floor it? You LET him get ahead and when you see him let off, you then decide to do a ricer fly by at 70? What was the speed limit then BEFORE you got on the interstate, if you're worried about another ticket? He does a ricer fly by to yours at 80 once you get on the interstate?

CLIFF NOTES:
Basically, even though you didn't go WOT because you didn't want to race, eventually you did and didn't catch up AND his car was pulling away, even if by a little, it's faster. Second run, you still didn't want to run, worrying about a ticket you slow down, but so does he, and then you say screw it and speed through at 70 before getting on the interstate, then he comes flying by once you get on the interstate?

I'd say he has the supercharged 3.6 w/ 260HP, it was probably a Grand Prix GTP.

EDIT:
After looking at your mods, he may have been modded as well or the V8, but it's still hard to say because you seemed to play timid.

I raced a GTP when stock and I had 3 people in my car, one of them being 260lbs probably. I didn't go all out, because they were in the car, but he put it to me pretty bad. I'd easily say that if the OP half-ass*d it, the 260HP supercharged car would still pull away. He'd have to be tons faster to come back and catch up AND pass him out. The GTP owner could've easily changed the pulley too.

Yes at first I didn't know he was gonna floor it like that so I made a quick decision to follow and we were on a road heading towards the interstate the whole time except for when he flew by me that was after we turned and we were on the frontage road and I let him do it too lol. And the first part he had a pretty good lead I had to cover the gap in the gain but as far as I remember I was either staying with
him or he was inching away ever so slightly. And after the shift I'm not 100% sure he was pulling away because that's about the time I let off the throttle but if i was prepared for it I would say it woulda been a pretty damn close race that could have gone either way and the 2nd light we came to I was even more cautious because right before we stopped at the red light there was a cop that had just turned left so that's why I wasnmt sure if he was gonna floor it and that's why I didn't the 2nd time.
But as far as modding I didn't get a good look at the driver but the car looked pretty stock as far as I could tell.
I like the 5.3 better because I would like the fact that my 3.5 is only slightly slower than a 5.3 haha. Same reason I like the GT-R so much.

Sorry about answering in jumbles and out of order and not using quotes I'm on my iPod so it's a bit difficult.
And to the river fly by at 70 we were coming up perpendicular to the interstate and I was about 1/2 throttle or a little more and when I saw him let off I did do a ricer fly by to pass him but ONLY because I couldn't let him think that he had won considering I was timid. And that's when we turned and after the turn I was at like 3/4 throttle for a little bit then I saw him coming up pretty quick and I knew he was gonna fly by me so I slowed down a little while before he got to me

This whole paragraph produces about 15 confused questions I could ask.... but I'm lazy.

You did a "ricer fly-by" therefore you lost the race.Sorry buddy but that's just the way it is. Nice story, I'm still puzzled about you going WOT AND scared of a ticket.

I never did say I won. But it wasn't really straight up and if I had been prepared and known about it then it probably would have been a good race that would be pretty close and probably go either way. And about the ticket thing I'm just weird. I'll go WOT but try not to go too far over the speed limit if I can help it. 70 in a 50 is much better than 80 in a 50. And I only did it to tell him he hadn't necessarily won because at the start of both "runs" I didn't start them as if I would be racing. And also as a provoking measure. And I'll admit I did a ricer fly by and not try and cover it up by saying I sped past him or somethin like that. But my car is far from rice.

And about the confusing paragraph I'm sorry. I'm not very good at projecting my ideas or putting down my thoughts into words.

Too much reading for me, but I did catch the "wanted to race at 7am" part. I wonder if the driver is related to Carlson...

2 things I woudl like to say:

even though your car isn't rice, it is still a ricer fly by

and if you had a short run with someone and then line up with him at the red light, you should KNOW that a race is on

on a side note, I never realized that thos things had an get-up to them at all

Some of them do. When I had my Maxima I was running low 15's and high 14's at the track and lined up against one. I'm assuming is was the slowest version because I killed it. There are fast versions though as in the on OP raced.

Any of the late model 5.3L Grand Prixs and Impala SS's will probably take an Altima off the line and run nose to nose up to 100.
