2009 Nissan Maxima, Reviewed

We've yet to get behind the wheel of the 2009 Nissan Maxima, but our good friends at Popular Mechanics have put the 2009 Maxima through its paces to determine if the car once hailed as the "four door sports car" has returned to its roots. It's hard to argue with the 3.5-Liter VQ which is good for an additional 35 horsepower and 9 lb-ft of twist. On the other hand, we have rarely been impressed with a CVT transmission at the center of any kind of sports car, even one that promises a manual mode that emulates a conventional gearbox. With a sampling of pieces from the Nissan parts bin, including some suspension bits from the Infiniti M45 and a steering wheel said to wind up in some form on the new Nissan 370Z, could this new Maxima chart Nissan's flagship sedan back into sportier waters?

Am I the only one that thinks the front/rear looks very similar to Honda's and Toyota's family sedan offering? The squaring-off and slightly boxy look just screams it.

The tails look just like a Yaris sedan, I know I work at a toyota dealership :P

I dont know, 290hp with a CVT, just doesn't seem like it will be able to truely compliment it, aside from the fact that its got to weigh at least 3500lbs

i dont care that they made the new Accords butt-ugly, but now the maxima? the they had just made the maxima look the best it has ever looked and then this new one looks retarded. I'm still getting used to the new altimas, but they didn't make it ugly, it looks sweet, just different than my beloved 2006.

The front looks way to simple. The interior looks like a g35x. They should of just taken the body of the g35x and smack the nissan logo. For that just get the infiniti. Nissan is disapointing me lol

Why?????

Why ruin such a nice car? The only thing that I like about this car is the front end, but I hate the sides of the headlights. Other than that, I dont think there is a single thing I like about this car. They absolutely ruined it. Anyone who buys that is a complete moron. The 03 and 07's are the best years. Why cant they keep this car looking good? Looks like their sales are going down for this model.

I have owned a few Maximas and I am just unsure of this one. Looks like they are trying to make it look like a FWD M35. I need to drive and see one in person to make a final decision.

Thumbs down

Wow, I can't believe I'm looking at a "2009" model maxima. I thought they would have come out with something more attractive and more muscular. Nissan really wants to kill the Maxima, now they have a reason to end the line.

Its funny how you complain about this NISSAN model. You say that it is looking like an INFINITY M45? But M45 is a really good car! If i had some extra $$$, i wouldn't hesitate and switched for one. Have you dummies looked at the interior of this Maxima?? The sporty-luxurious seats and beatifull control panel! Damn folks, you are missing out, this is great car... Who gives a damn if the rear looks like Camry or smth? The Camrys rear looks much better than its front, so here you got pretty nice looking rear of camry a good looking new design of the Maxima's front...

Personally, i like this car... good job Nissan.

I think NISSAN did a good job on the interior i look AWSOME , i agree with Pimped-Up . Only thing that i don't like about it is front. Nissan should realy work on the front lights and grill.
