Blacktop problems

i just bought a 96 240 that has a blacktop in it. it seems to sputter at about 4000 to 4500 rpms in all gears. but then will catch up to itself and go & boost like normal. what could be the problem? i check all my vac lines and my intercooler pipes for leaks. the car also has a turbo 300 zx fuel pump in it.

change spark plugs, run a colder plug if possible, if u can't, some replacement platinum plugs should do it, but u'll have to change these often.

gap .28-.30

should fix your problem

Your timing could be a tad off as well.

What Fuel Pressure are you at???

Could also 'possibly' be a knock sensor.....

sounds like retarded timing maybe. has no low end power, then around 4000 or so it starts to move? check your timing...there is a really long precedure for doing this, so do it right.

the problem only starts when the throttle is at 80% and when the motor is cold. i'm also having a hell of a time get the temp up in the motor. it runs at about 80 deg C. thats after it "warms" up. i tried to put ardboard in front of the radiator but it still runs at the same temp. is there a good link to explain how to check my timing

check your sparkplug gap. if they're pre-gapped, decrease it down to around .025-.027

It's likely that the boost is "blowing out" the spark.
