Xterra P0430 Cat Replacement

Hi guys, so I've read many threads on various forums but I can't seem to get the exact information i'm looking for and figured i'd try asking in a new thread. So a brake down of the situation is I bought a 2004 Xterra SE Supercharged about a year ago and almost immediately had to replace the bank 1 (P0420) catalytic converters. I had a shop do the replacement and it was not cheap (~$700). Some months later I got the P0430 code indicating catalytic failure in Bank 2 (drivers side). I cleared it and waited to see if it came back, and it did. I drove it anyways. However, now I can tell it really needs replacing since there is heavy hesitation and jerking during idle which makes me think there is back pressure to the engine and the cat is no longer doing its job. Since i'm trying to save some money, I will be attempting to do this PITA job. My question is, do I need to just replace the pre catalytic converter since it does a majority of the filtering or do I also have to replace the rear main catalytic converter as well? I can't seem to find much information on how to test which to replace other than pulling them out and looking at them. If I only need to replace the front pre cat it would save me a bunch of cash ~$180 as it appears in parts.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
