Question Whole Key Fob Replacement or Just The Key With Chip?

I accidentally ran my 2006 Nissan Murano key fob through the washer & dryer and it never recovered. Tried replacing the battery hoping that would help but that did nothing.

Have not wanted to pay $125+ for a new one.

Now I see that a new key with transponder chip can be purchased. Does anyone think that this could be all that is needed for my fob to work again?
