  1. Converting from power antenna

    General Nissan Altima Discussion (1993-2001)
I have a '94 Altima and I was wondering if anyone knew how I would be able to switch my antenna from a powered one to an in-glass antenna. Has anyone even tried this, I can't find anything when I search? I'm kinda tired of having to deal with the power antenna or any antenna. I think it looks...
  2. Pulling out the antenna mast

    General Nissan Altima Discussion (1993-2001)
So I am having trouble getting the antenna mast out of the motor assembly. The Haynes manual says you should just be able to pull it out (assuming the ring on the body panel is taken off and the radio is turned to the ON position). However, whenever I try to pull the mast out I can get it fully...
  3. What is that sound?

    General Nissan Altima Discussion (1993-2001)
Had my exhaust stuff checked out. Mechanic changed the muffler which solved the problem of the sound coming up at park. However, the sound still came up while driving. So I took it back and the mechanic couldn't really figure out where the sound was coming from. I had a friend help me out and...
  4. What is that sound?

    General Nissan Altima Discussion (1993-2001)
I have a '94 with 140K miles on it and for the past month or so I have been getting this wierd sound coming from around the muffler at around 1500RPMs. Its like a low buzzing sound kind of like if I had a fart can on my car. The sound only comes out around 1300 - 1700 RPMs. I usually get the...
  5. Purchased 93 and got some questions

    General Nissan Altima Discussion (1993-2001)
Don't you have to remove the lower timing chain cover to get at the second guide? I didn't think you could get to that from the upper one.
  6. Timing Chain Noise Solved

    General Nissan Altima Discussion (1993-2001)
Altimas have a rubber gasket too, you just have to put sealant on the 3 half circles of the gasket and a litte bit near where the distributer is.
  7. Wait time for gasket sealant

    General Nissan Altima Discussion (1993-2001)
No. It's the one with that's designed for high-torque applications (Mainly Imports). The Nissan Dealership here uses it. It pretty much goes for the same temperature as the Ultra Black. Permatex Ultra Grey Edit:// So I turned the car on after about 3 hours and let it run for about ten minutes...
  8. Need Help on 97 Altima GLE

    General Nissan Altima Discussion (1993-2001)
Welcome to the boards. Before anyone else mentions it-------the search feature is your friend. 1) The timing chain noise is not a big deal, it's from the chain hitting the upper timing chain guide. If it bothers you, you can take off the valve cover and remove it. 2) The stalling could be a...
  9. Wait time for gasket sealant

    General Nissan Altima Discussion (1993-2001)
After having torqued all the nuts on the valve cover, how long should I wait to turn on the car to check for oil leaks? Should I wait for the sealant to cure which is like a day, or a few hours, or can I check pretty much right away? I used Permatex Ultra Grey if that makes any difference.
  10. RTV Sealant for valve cover gasket

    General Nissan Altima Discussion (1993-2001)
I plan on changing my valve cover gasket this weekend. Cause I have some time and cause that area is gunked up pretty badly. I also plan on removing my upper timing chain guide. Never really messed with anything major on the car before other than take apart the cap and rotor and change the spark...
  11. a/c????

    General Nissan Altima Discussion (1993-2001)
Get a recharge/retrofit kit. Should be pretty simple from there.
  12. spark plug wires?

    General Nissan Altima Discussion (1993-2001)
Go online. Use Google and search for "NGK wires". I ordered mine from SWA for like $70. Price could range from $50 to $70, depending on where you get the deal.
  13. checking injectors?

    General Nissan Altima Discussion (1993-2001)
VERY ROUGH running. It'll feel like your engine is about to explode.
  14. Light for Cruise Control Button

    General Nissan Altima Discussion (1993-2001)
I had the same thing. When I put it back together, the OFF button got stuck, 'cause the spring didn't compress right. I didn't feel like taking it apart again, so I just said **** it, and bought one from a junkyard for $10.
  15. Wires

    Engine Performance (1993-2001)
NGK wires. OEM plugs (which are NGK by the way), fuel filter, cap and rotor from the dealer.
  16. Light for Cruise Control Button

    General Nissan Altima Discussion (1993-2001)
Well I was able to get to the bulb today. Took me a bit of work cause I had to pry both of the sides apart to get the part that holds the bulb to slide out. It was all for nothing cause I went to all the parts stores around the area and then I tried Radio Shack and no one had it, they didn't...
  17. Recommended lubricants and fluids...

    Engine Performance (1993-2001)
Mobil Drive Clean Motor Oil (5W - 30), Rain-X Washer Fluid, whatever the mechanic puts in for the rest.
  18. Humid weather actually seems to make my car run decently

    General Nissan Altima Discussion (1993-2001)
I notice my car runs better when it's cool and dry outside also. My car seems to be a bit more sluggish when warmer, but I just attribute all of that to the air outside.
  19. Resistor Fan ?

    General Nissan Altima Discussion (1993-2001)
    Search "blower motor resistor"
  20. Light for Cruise Control Button

    General Nissan Altima Discussion (1993-2001)
The one that lets you know the cruise control is on. I am pretty sure it's green. If anyone remembers how they got to the bulb once they removed the button, please let me know.
