I started a tuneup on my wife's van, only to find that 2 of the spark plug cylinders were full of oil. I've tried to remove as much of it as I could, but my question is what would be causing this? These cylinders are beside one another, so I was wondering if changing the head gasket should fix this?

Worn piston rings, worn valve covers...but under no circumstances is this a head gasket problem, and doing a head gasket on this engine turned sideways in this FWD config is a job not to be taken lightly...lol. Your removing basically all the chains and cam gears, and one screw up, your engine may never start again. Rule out the simple stuff 1st. This sounds like you need a new valve cover(s)
