I have a 2016 Nissan Altima 2.5 liter and only use Shell or Mobil 93 octane and though many have made valid points on this thread I will add my two cents and here it is, 87 octane gasoline burns faster and is fine in my car in the winter but I live in the Sunshine State which gets very hot so for the exception of a couple months a year I use 93 for pre-ignition prevention which I have heard with my own ears on both my car and my sister's car hers is a 2015 version same motor anyway I do know the computer does compensate for this but it does this by retarding the ignition timing thus reducing power and I don't want to get started with the additive packages higher octane gasoline have which with today's engines with weak piston rings can get stuck because of deposits getting by the two compression rings causing stiction in the oil control rings damaging cylinder walls reducing compression not to mention all the oil it will start burning anyway that was my two cents.
