well, first off don't say S, cuz the S is all the base stuff. I think you mean the SL. The SL has all the goodies for the same price as a base 3.5 . I have the S which has all the base stuff but I would definetely get a base 3.5 if i had to choose between an SL and the 3.5. I would have no use for the goodies when I could get all that stuff aftermarket and it will still be cheaper. Hmm, aftermarket radio, aftermarket leather, aftermarket EVERYTHING!!! Just get a 3.5, you won't regret it.

I have a base 3.5 and I never miss any of the extras that I could have gotten on loaded 2.5SL. Like Tweekers said, any of the extras you might want you can add later. That way you don't pay for things you don't use.

Personally I'd rather have the V6 just to say I had 245 hp blah blah..but in reality I'm happy that I have all these options and engine power that I got on my 2.5S. I guess it depends on what type of person you are. I got the 2.5 mainly cause of the price difference, and the 4 banger does just fine for me on the streets.

Just to throw in my 2 cents. When I went to my local Nissan dealership last summer to purchase an Altima, I told the salesman I was looking for a 3.5 and a 3.5 ONLY. I never considered the 4-cyl. I have no regrets.

Our opinions don't really matter...its all about what you prefer to drive. Do you prefer to drive a fast car without any options such as sunroof, remote buttons for the stereo and keyless entry or would you rather have all those things and have less power under your right foot? Personally I own one of those "base" 2.5S's, but its all loaded up with every possible option except leather and Bose and it was defintely less out the door than my dealer was ready to do on any 3.5 (at the time I purchased my car nobody at my dealer had even heard of a 2.5SL...if you wanted leather you ordered leather in your S). The 2.5 has more than enough power for anyone who needs their car to hustle down the road competently and it can be easily mistaken for a good V-6...but if you absolutely need to have the max power then go for the V-6.

Keep in mind that the base 3.5SE is really pretty well equipt. You get the power drivers seat, steering wheel controls, fog lights, 17"s, etc. The option that is most significant I feel is the sunroof. I was just like mwessinger, and wasn't about to take anything but a V6 5-Speed, but I also knew if I was dropping 20+ grand on a car, it had to have the features I wanted. I special ordered mine with the sport package, sunroof, sidesills, and mats/filter from nissan. I bought my aftermarket leather through Attention to Detail's great group buy ($520), got heater seats from them too, and a bunch of other goodies for it (car starter, audio stuff, etc). Right now my total, with tax and title and all aftermarket equipment is ~24,700. A 2.5Sl, with the same level of equipment as mine has (SL + sunroof, foglights, side sills, floor mats, and microfilter, has an MSRP of $25094 + tax/title. Figure you should pay about $23000 + tax/title for it. That comes out to around $24200ish.

As you can see, the price is much more for a 3.5, yet you get the resale value, the uniqueness, and the outstanding power of the VQ. I say price it out with your needs, but I bet you'll find the SE is a better buy. PM me if you have any other Qs.

if you have the choice, and the prices are very similar. Yea, I'd say go with the 3.5 base. Do I have regrets? once in awhile, of course, who wouldn't want more power. But I'm still VERY happy with my car, has enough juice to get me past most little punks on the freeways and streets... and well.. not to be cocky... my car is still very much a head turner. :)

:flip: let's not get started post whoring in this thread, ok?
:birthday:

sorry had to do one:D

but on a serious note, base alty's come with great sound system's and both have good power. I'd seriously get a 3.5 if the SL and 3.5 are the same price. Even if there was a 2000 dollar difference, i'd get the 3.5

It Depends

Well I have a 2.5 S with convenience package. I have everything except the V6 motor and leather seats. For me it was the best option. It all depends also where you live. Here in PR you can not go to fast because there are cops everywhere so, why bother to get the V6 if the 4 cyl run almost as fast as a Celica GTS.
I don't need the leather seats option and the crap inside that is suppose to be wood. Rear Dimming, not needed, I'm in the Caribbean. The same about the heated seats.

didn't say he shouldn't, if they were virtually the same price (give or take a thousand) then yes, 3.5 is the way to go. but $2000 difference can add up later on, especially when you factor in insurance and gas. In hindsight, I still think I made the right choice when I did. I wanted aftermarket nothing in the interior (sound etc, I dont' care for it no matter what people tell me) and the $5000 savings I had at the time was quite a big deal. Not to mention how much my insurance would surely have gone up had I got that V6 monster :)

sa'll good though, G35C is still on the horizon for me. :bigok:

i was reffering to a 2.5S with the convenience plus package that comes with sunroof and power everything but no bose. i can get it 21,400 out the door. the V6 base which has no sunroof but power seat and radio controls and fogs i can get 24,700 out the door. there is about a 3,300 difference. plus the extra gas throughout the years that i will use and probably the v6 will have a 100-200 dollar more insurance price. that is what im between. thanks for all the help and any other advice would be great
