Nissan's new product onslaught continues in the 2003 model year with the introduction of the all-new 350Z™ sports car and Murano crossover sport utility. The Z® arrives in August 2002, while the Murano is scheduled to arrive at 1,100 Nissan dealers nationwide in November 2002.

"Nissan is starting an unprecedented progression of new products in the United States, including a pulse-quickening 350Z™ two-seat sports car and the Murano, a crossover blending great performance with great versatility," said Jed Connelly, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Nissan North America, Inc. "We have more on-deck which we know will appeal to a growing number of car and truck shoppers."

Other 2003 highlights include a new Maxima SE Titanium Edition Package, the addition of the Frontier Open Sky model with a power-operated retractable top, 10 additional horsepower for Frontier and Xterra V6 models, and available satellite radio for all Pathfinder models.

Following is an overview of Nissan Division products for the 2003 model year:


Continuing the Z® heritage of design, performance and value that has remained unchanged since the first generation model, this new-generation Z® promises to provide all users with immense joy of ownership and complete driving pleasure. While inheriting the "Z-ness" passed on through successive generations, this 350Z™ embodies many new features for a sports car, all of which have been perfected to exceptionally high quality.

Key features of the 2003 350Z™ include:

24-valve 3.5-liter DOHC V6 producing 287 horsepower and 274 lb-ft of torque
Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS)
Electronically controlled 5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode or 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission
Front engine/rear-wheel drive
Driver-oriented interior environment with 3-bay gauge pods, center console with solid aluminum look
Exposed rear strut tower brace in rear cargo area with "Z" logo
Zone body construction for enhanced crash protection
4-wheel independent multi-link suspension with use of lightweight aluminum components
Available Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with Traction Control System (TCS)
17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and 225/50WR17 (front), 235/50WR17 (rear) tire, available 18-inch alloy wheels and performance tires


The all-new Nissan Murano sport utility vehicle is Nissan's first entry into the crossover SUV segment. It comes with a standard 240-plus horsepower 3.5-liter DOHC V6. It also offers the first North American standard application of Nissan's advanced Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), which provides smooth, responsive acceleration, quiet efficient operation and virtually eliminates traditional shift shock. Other performance features include 4-wheel independent suspension for a smooth, car-like ride and a new all-wheel drive system. A front-wheel drive model will also be offered. The Nissan Murano will be available in November 2002.

Key features of the 2003 Murano include:

All-new, sculpted exterior with distinctive, contemporary design guided by a 'sculpture in motion' theme
Wraparound surface construction with an architectural front grille, sloping hoodline, steeply raked windshield, upswept D-pillars and lightweight rear cargo door
240-plus horsepower 3.5-liter DOHC V6, derived from the award-winning VQ engine series
All-new Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with available 6-speed manual shift mode (SE model only)
Available Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with Traction Control System (TCS)
Available with all-new AWD system for enhanced all-weather performance or front-wheel drive
4-wheel independent suspension with advanced multi-link rear suspension, cradle-type front subframe and high-stiffness stabilizer bars
First-class seating designed for two couples with special attention to interior details, providing comfort and functionality
Standard 6.3-inch information monitor (7.0-inch with optional navigation system)
Sculpted front and rear seats with reclining rear seats (remote flip-down function)
Highly functional storage systems, including a two-tier lockable center console storage box with room to hold a laptop computer or purse and door pockets with flip-out function


For 2003, Nissan's popular flagship Maxima sedan offers a new Titanium Edition Package (for SE models), standard front seat side-impact supplemental air bags (for GLE models) and two new exterior colors - Sheer Silver (all models) and Polished Titanium (Titanium Edition Package only).

Enhancements to the 2003 Maxima include:

Standard front seat side-impact supplemental air bags for GLE model
New Titanium Edition Package (optionally available on SE manual and automatic transmission models), featuring Bose® audio system with in-dash 6-disc CD changer, front seat side-impact supplemental air bags, in-mirror compass, stainless steel sill plates with Maxima logo, titanium-tint accent stitching on steering wheel, A/T shift knob and M/T shift boot, titanium-tint on center console, floor mats and 17-inch alloy wheels with bright finish
Two new exterior colors - Sheer Silver (all models) and Polished Titanium (SE models with Titanium Edition Package)
New monotone interior door panels


The all-new third generation Altima was introduced as a 2002 model with a totally new exterior, interior with increases in all major dimensions, along with a totally new platform. It also introduced, for the first time, a choice of 4-cylinder or V6 engines. Altima was named the 2002 North American Car of the Year and has enjoyed record sales throughout its first year. For 2003, several minor enhancements have been made to the interior, while a new packaging system has simplified the option choices for customers.

Enhancements to the 2003 Altima include:

New charcoal seat fabric (late availability), padded cloth front center armrest cover (genuine leather on leather-equipped vehicles), bright titanium interior accent colors for all models
Two new exterior colors - Sonoma Sunset and Crystal Blue
Standard automatic transmission, heated front seats, heated outside mirrors and simulated wood trim for 2.5 SL
New 3.5 SE Sport Package, which includes sunroof and spoiler
New 3.5 SE Sport Package Plus, which includes sunroof, spoiler, Bose® audio system and xenon headlights
3.5 SE Leather Package now includes Bose® audio system, sunroof and Cold Package
New 3.5 SE Leather Sport Package, which includes Leather Package, spoiler and xenon headlights
New 3.5 SE Premium Leather Package, which includes Leather Sport Package, plus simulated wood trim
