When driving on the highway today going 70mph i noticed my temp gauge rising as i was going up hills but falling to normal when going downhill or on flat stretch. What could be causing this?

Your engine is working harder going up hills at speed. If your cooling system isn't working properly (thermostats, fans, radiator fins, etc etc.) then this sort of temp creep will happen. Start by checking coolant levels and if both fans come on or not when it's at operating temp and just idling in park.

Can also be a transmission issue...if your slipping internally, you'll be generating more heat than can be dissipated by the radiator. I hope this isn't the problem...it's much more expensive to fix than say a new rad. How many miles??

Could definitely be transmission related as well then.
