just a quick post for those wishing to upgrade door speakers. the stock speakers use a bracket - shopping around will find you a set that can use them. if not, making some out of 1/2" mdf shouldn't be a problem. pictured are mids from audiobahn's 6002abc component set; they dropped in pretty nicely.

Nice pics.
I heard a nasty rumor that the stock speakers are 2 ohm. Are the audiobahn speakers 2 ohm, also? If not, how do they sound volume wise? A speaker with a higher ohm rating shouldn't be as loud as one with a lower rating.

the ohms aren't marked on the back of the stock speakers. i highly doubt that they are 2 ohms though - i can't see the amp that's driving them to be high enough quality that nissan would risk the warranty issues.

the audiobahns are 4 ohms - they sound quite a bit better. more realistic, the midbass is much tighter and power handling is much improved.

They look nice. My local dealer said that audiobahn was made by JL. They should be a good speaker. I am getting ready to install a Rockford Power 160_x4 amp and some 6" rockford power midbass and 1' tweeters this weekend I hope. Waiting on a amp kit to come via ups..

They put a set of 4ohm in the back and didn't get the same sound as the stockers. Hmmmm. ANywho, are you still using the alleged BOSE amp that is built into every corner of that system?

yeah, they put in a set of 6 x 9's in the rear deck. the signal going to the rear deck is subwoofer info, so unless they had a good set that can handle bass....

I just disconnect the factory 6 x 9's and run a dedicated amp/subwoofer combo (Soundstream 700s/JL12W6). The mids/tweets are off of the bose amp, but not for long - I have a Soundstream 604 which is going in soon.

UNLEADED

where did you mount your amp. There is not alot of space in the rear close to the back of the seats. I was thinking about putting the power distribution block, ground block, & amp on the back of the rear seats?

OK...What about the stock stereo? I was thinking about adding a sub but don't want to screw with the existing sustem because it is meeting my current needs for mids and highs.

just came accross this thread. I'm thinking of going w/ 4ohm speakers in the front (6.5" right?) with the stock HU... for now

for those of you who have gone 4ohm w/ the stock amp& HU, how did it sound? SQ should improve but I'm worried about a noticeable drop in power/volume since they are 4ohm.

I got a set of MB Quart 6.5" components off the stock Bose HU and amp, and there is a somewhat noticeable drop in volume. The stock front door speakers are 2 ohm speakers. You really notice a whole lot more detail with the MB's, but they are in dire need of power. They JUST start to come to life when the amp starts to run out of power (volume 27 and above im my car). I'll be glad when I get the new HU and amps in the car.

thanks for the info! now i know to not bother with 6.5" replacements just yet. the volume drop will just annoy me up until I suck it up and get a new HU and amp for the fronts.

anybody have info on 'good' 2ohm replacements? links?

You should really think about upgrading your headunit if your going to run different speakers on stock wiring and the stock headunit. It will sound a million times better first of all especially off the new headunit and better wiring. Also, running them off an amp would probably blow you out of the water if you think different speaker run the stock headunit are great. I see it as, if your going to upgrade one part, why not just get everything done right away....
