alternator belt = drive belt?

ok....probably a stupid question.......
is the "alternator belt" actually the drive belt? i need a new one (it's starting to crack), and all my haynes manual talks about is the drive belt (but the mechanic called it an alternator belt), so..........are they one and the same?

point is, i need a new one. i was quoted about $70 - 80 including labor. most of it is labor, actually. i was wondering who has done this themselves, and if so, how difficult of a job was it? or should i just not be a cheap bastard and take it in to the shop and have them do it?

thank ya kindly for any advice........ :)

if its the alternator belt, the belt is $20, and my mechanic charged me $25 to put it on.
so am i to inderstand (please bear with me) that there is an alternator belt as well as a drive belt? i am confused because i didn't find anything about an alternator belt in the h.m., only about the drive belt.
the alternator belt (never rally looked) is one large belt that powers everything.

however, on the Altys it might be 2, but most new cars have just the one. I'd say go and look right now. it should be just the one belt that snakes all the way around...
Yes, the main drive belt powers the alternator.

The only other belt is for the A/C compressor.
I think the belt is one in the same I just had that done and it was like 45 with parts and labor.
aaaaaahhh....thank you so very much. i would go check it out right now, but my bf has it today.
thank ya thank ya!
There are only 2 belts .. the "drive belt " which runs from the crank and drives the Alternator, Power steering pump , and water pump , and then you have another belt that runs from the crank to the AC compressor ... replace them both !!

SHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! ;)
How do you get the alt. belt off. I've tried the adjuster bolt on the front of the alternator and the damn thing didn't loosen up. I really don't want to take the entire alternator out or any pullys off. Is there another bolt?
