I follow the SCC project 240sx, they change cams, stating that the KA24DE is a direct-acting valvetrain, it need shims for adjustment on reground cams...

My mechanic removes the valve cover and there are no shims, the cams just ride on the lifters/buckets(forgot the exact name), but no shims...

Don nimi talks about changing shims, SCC also talks about changing shims, but when look in my engine no shims...

Anybody know why?, I have a '97 Altima, maybe mine is a later model year with slight changes?

You do have shims.

The shims are on the buckets. They are very, very, thin and fit perfectly on the bucket. The shims are there, they are just hard to see.

All KA engines had direct acting valve-trains and require shims.
If you take the cams off and take out one of the buckets, you will see the shim.
