Was looking at the 2003 Altima 3.5SE Automatic with no other options, what whould be a fair price for this car? Out in the Las Vegas area, all the dealers are like a cartel and charge the same fees. Here is what i came across.

Base Price: 21,046
Destination: 540
Advertising Fee: 525
Doc Fee: 399
Window Etch: 189

Sub Total: 22699
Tax (7.25%): 1645.68

Total Cost: 24344.68

Please let me know what fees should be deducted or eliminated all together.

Thanks,
Zzyzx

The $525 advertising fee should not be charged to you. That's just plain BS. The $399 document fee should only be $45. It's for them to fill out some forms for you. The window etch of the VIN should be around $80 only, and my dealer through it in for free since it was already done to the car and I didn't specifically ask for it. It costs them probably 10 dollars to do the VIN etching on the windows. It seems they are charing you about $1000 too much. I got my 3.5 SE Auto for 21,700 including destination charge, microfilter, splash guards, and floor mats. You should at least try to get the price under 22k before tax and title.

BS!! Dont pay any fees. The only thing you need to pay is the destination/dealer prep fee. This covers it all. If they wont remove the fees, remove yourself from that dealership.

Again, there is NO reason for you to pay any fees period. Tax, Title, and dealer prep/delivery. Why should you pay an advertising fee? Isn't the point of a SALE for you to SAVE money? Fees are up there with scotchgaurd and $1500 alarms on the dealer scam list! Dont be a sucker, let them know you wont put up with any of their sales crap!

Those fees are ridiculous! Shop on the internet to get the best deal. I did and got a fully loaded SE for $500 over invoice.

Base Price: 21,046 = should be $20,592 (invoice)
Destination: 540 = should be $540
Advertising Fee: 525 = should be $0 (they just try to make their money back from their own advertising)
Doc Fee: 399 = should be $0 (no need to pay for this)
Window Etch: 189 = should be $0 (you can get it done at a police station for free or buy a kit from automotive place and do it yourself.

Sub Total: 22699 = should be $21,132
Tax (7.25%): 1645.68 = should be 1532.07

Total Cost: 24344.68 = should be 22674.07

total savings= 1670.61 = you can use all of this money for mods!!!

Don't let the dealers get the best of you. Remember they are not on your side at all....they might claim that they are but they're out there to get all the money they can from you!

Good Luck! and Happy Hunting!

Yeah i was in a parking lot at K-mart one day and the police were there etching windows for free. All they wanted was for the people to fill out some forms and stuff. I was gonna get mine done but they had so many cars lined up. I wasn't gonna wait that long.

Thanks for all the replys. It looks like the dealers in Las Vegas stick together on bogus pricing, too bad. Looks like I'll have to make a purchase in Ca. or Az. to get a fair deal.

Do NOT pay for glass etching! It is the biggest scam going right now. In fact they got me for it for 500.00 within two days I got my money back for that crap. I have talked to several dealer friends and they all say it is a scam.

Insurance company laughed when I asked them for the discount I was told I would get for having it.

Funny thing is when I demanded my money back for the etching, they didn't object at all.
