i got a friend whos parents are taking both her older sisters back to college, and they are leaving her a old volvo and she just told me that the clutch on that thing is close to dying. I was wondering how hard is it to change the clutch on a late 80s-early 90s volvo.

unless you can resurface the flywheel (i think that's what the thing is called that contacts the clutch plate)... bring it to a shop....

in my experience (i had an 82 volvo - mom has a 94 volvo) the things are waaayyy to expensive to maintain... unless you get a new one (new cars are more reliable in general)

keep in mind:

get that thing resurfaced &
get a new throw-out bearing as well...

and personally i would bring it to a volvo dealer... yes you may pay more, but a LOT of mechanics do NOT KNOW volvo's, especially older ones...
