when checking oil does it matter when I check it or should I get it at running temp first, or should I leave it cold before I check it?? also is the dipstick always right or should I just go with the dealership recomendation on amount to put in and not worry about the level on the dipstick??

there is a cold side, and a hot side on the dipstick. so it dont matter

I havee a 98 gxe and it only has one side. also do I push the dipstick all the way down or just to that first notch it hits when I push it down?

put it in all the way then pull it out. if the oil is close to where the mark is, then u are fine. if its low, add some (most likely u wont have to). check the color of the oil too.

no... and its best to do it when the car is cold. All the oil is at the bottom, and not hidden or still coating the internals. I don't think mine has hot/cold, only the Auto tranny fluid stick has that.

Also, take about 3 measurements to be safe. the 1st is always a wash since oil is everywhere the 1st time.. wipe it off, then check 2 more times.
