Okay, now after reading and rereading whatever I could find about the brake swap, I still have a few Q's. You see, my alty has rear drums with ABS :-( I want to convert it but I know that the ABS factor makes it that much more of a bitch-job. I was told by a mechanic that I would have to replace the ABS sensors. Does this mean the sensors located at the rear wheels? Also, would the proportioning valve need to be changed, or is it the same? Seems to me that no one else changed theirs but I want to know if I should so as not to half-ass my brake job. I am also aware that the master cylinder is different (correct?). Would my computer need to be reprogrammed also? Anything else I'm missing?

I did this conversion about 3 weeks ago.
I've been waiting for my E-Brake cable to come in. It came today.. WOOHOO!

Of course I will have a write-up with tons of pics as usual..

It's somewhat easy. Just time consuming and requires 2 people.
Total time is about 4-6+ hours.
After the write-up It will be very easy.


1 being easiest, 10 being hardest.
I give this project difficulty a 6. (time consumption)

Dude, do a search of this forum; I know of at least two threads here where members converted their drums to discs. Neither had ABS, however. One of the thread may have even been FAQ'd by a moderator; not sure though. I'm to lazy to look right now though.

I have NON-ABS on my car. I got ABS rear disc's.
If you have NON-ABS on your car it can take either type of brake.
Cars with ABS I think already have rear disc. If they don't then you HAVE to get rear disc's that have ABS. From my understanding any NON-ABS brakes install on a ABS car wil really screw it up. Or so I've been told.
