My left cv joint is making a rattling nois when i turn, so i figure i have top replace it. My question is, do i have to reaplace both of them or can i just replace one? and how much does it cost wiht the boot? Also im pretty mechaicly inclined would i need any special tools to do it and how difficult is it to do?

It's cvheaper in the long run to replace the entire axle. If the joint is bad off enough, it's going to fail sooner or later. So why pay the money now and possibley have to replace the entire thing later.

It's one thing if you cathc a tear in the boot early, but if it's already making noise, I'd just replace the entire thing. It should cost you under $150 to replace it.

If you plan to replace the axle, you can just replace the one side, you don't need to do both.

Mine is clicking and I too was wondering what exactly is involved in changing the axle yourself.
