Hi

I'm having a problem with my rear video being too dark. It's like it has F/Stop problems. When I backup with my front light setting in Auto, I have to change it to off to get the right brightness picture on my screen. Later it seems to be totally stuck in the wrong F/stop.

What is causing this problem and is there an easy solution?

I have another car that behaves a bit like this...for that one I set the radio unit display to a fixed brightness...as the day/night setting made the backup camera useless in the dark. However, it sounds like this isn't quite the problem you are having...

My guess would be that something is reducing the amplitude of the video waveform coming from the camera...smaller signal equals flatter/darker picture displayed. Unfortunately, if the radio has no brightness problems, then the most likely explanation is that something is degrading inside your rear camera...probably due to moisture ingress. Short story, replacing the camera is the most likely solution.
